How many points will be needed to win the league?

Here's a thought. They are both playing at the weekend while we play Chelsea. They will be under so much pressure to win and not give us a points advantage with a game in hand. It will be fascinating to see how they react after two tough, and hopefully disappointing, midweek games.

Squeaky bum time :)

It may all be over before we play Spurs, hopefully.

5 more wins to do it, if we manage to get 6 points from Brighton and Forest it will break their already fragile belief. The reaction from the Liverpool players yesterday at the end seemed like they are already done. Crazy when there’s only 2 points in it, however they know they are coming up against a relentless winning machine that win it comes to the crunch it delivers.

Take nothing for granted play every game like it’s a cup final. Hopefully two will be. Immortality is a genuine possibility if we can hold our nerve, play to our fullest ability and get the luck when we need it.

If the Liverpool and Arsenal players react even 1% as despondently as their fans, we’ll be fine. I can’t believe how many of them are giving up!

I think Liverpool are still the big threat - Klopp leaving means there’s no “better luck next year”, no going again etc, plus they’ve actually got the trophies and experience behind their squad.

I agree. Arsenal are playing better football. But Liverpool are the bigger threat imo. Which is why in some ways I am glad the higher goal difference is with Arsenal and not Liverpool.

Still smiling this morning after those results, but absolutely not taking anything for granted with an awful lot of hard work and concentration to come. I wonder if us going top on Sat had any bearing on the mindset of Arse and Lpool yesterday, coincidental wasn't it.

Tbh totally honest, with the fixtures that were left I expected Liverpool to win every match and take the title. With Arsenal winning games so easily recently I k ew their goals would dry up and they'd drop points as soon as they had a challenge, but I thought Liverpool would keep finding goals.

All we have now is a chance. Spurs away is the obvious banana skin, but it can happen anywhere - last year we drew at both Forest and Brighton I think and we can't afford for that again this time.

I'd be amazed if we don't drop some points along the way, so to hear their fans crying about it being over is hilarious. Hopefully some of their players are as defeated too. I still think we need 5 wins and a draw and it's a big ask when we have Champions League and the FA Cup to fit in alongside also. But those results yesterday mean we are right in it now.

My thoughts

1. Nothing is over and everything still to play for...there can be more twists and turns. We have a couple of very tough games in Brighton away and especially Spurs away - yes its in our hands bu there are two very difficult games and we are still well into the CL and Fa Cup as well to contend with

having said that

2. The reaction of Klopp in his post match interview was unbelievably negative. Some people might say it is mind games but i dont think i was...he looked broken and said he couldnt at the moment pick the players up - counter this with what we know from the behind the scenes stuff we have seen with Pep and imagine what his reaction would be....one game at a time...do our job...But Klopp looked beaten and defeatist - of course this could be different behind closed doors but it came across as very very negative - if this carries on they will drop more points.

3 the reaction of both set of rival fans.....again defeatist - its only 2 pts and all it takes is one slip from us - but arsenal fans walking out with 10 mins to go - compared with what we have done time and time again and won HUGE games in the last minutes (VIlla, QPR and others) - this will only add pressure.....the famous anfield atmosphere was supposed to pick them up today after the Atalanta defeat - it sounded like a cemetary at Klanfield today.

Personally I still think it will go to the wire...that Spurs game worries me and Brighton are a very decent team as well. However we are now in poll position and this weekend couldnt have gone any better....we have narrowed Arsenal's goal difference though they are still +5 ahead of us...and overtake Liverpools (we are + 2 ahead of them I think)

Regardless of whether we win it or not to still be well in it at this stage of the season after everything we achieved last season is absolutely remarkable...and possibly the biggest testament to Pep as a coach and manager.
Good post. I watched a bit of Arsenal Fan TV after their loss to Villa and the sense of defeatism was rife. Only the main guy Robbie seemed to have any hope - the rest were a bunch of cowardly conceders. If our players down the years had that attitude we would still be a Championship club.
I stayed to the end against Gillingham and was rewarded - learnt a big lesson that day as did many other City fans.
