We'd need to be within 1 or 2 to really put pressure on them. That way go 1-0 up whilst they're still 0-0 and things start to ramp up. It also adds a bit of jeopardy in terms of going for goals over just winning the game.

Personally I just can't see it coming down to that, but I've been wrong before. I think if it's down to goal difference we'll remain on the wrong side of it.

We should just win our games instead!
If we do lose it on goal difference it will call into question the many times we take the foot of the pedal apparently to conserve energy for future games. I think you should always go for the kill when on top. For example, we probably should have won 6 or 7 nil last Saturday but lost a goal fucking about before getting back down to business.

How many times has the league been won on goal difference? And how many times do we look fresher at the end of the season than our title rivals due to squad rotation and taking our foot of the gas when the game is won?

I'll be more annoyed at the two points dropped against Palace before Christmas.

Would absolutely love us to win big on Saturday. By five or six goals. Wipe out (there or thereabouts) Arsenals’s goal difference in one fell swoop. Reckon there’s a decent chance their arses will start going after that.

I feel that would apply discernibly more pressure than a comprehensive 2-0 victory.

Looking back at the last eight seasons have you, have I, got the right to question anything?

I mean, have a think about what you’ve said. As a City fan.

Think about where we’ve come from. Assuming you came from that place.

we need high tempo and bit of pressing too and score early. last thing I want is a slow first half then less and less time and all of a sudden all their counters will be a sitter...

this is when City need to raise their game as much as its possible.

hope Haaland scoring 4 is start of a great run and he doesnt go blank for last 3 league games. keep them coming...

Yeah I see Arsenal nailing them, like really badly. They're all wrong for the makeshift United defence. They're not going to cope with Saka and Martinelli running at them.
Martinelli has been shite lately, Trossard has been their main man

Which would also call into question the strategy that won us a historic treble last season, and that has driven us to winning the last 3 premier leagues, and that has won us 6 of the last 7.

But yeah, let's all throw a paddy when we don't manage to win it.

We will win the league on points.

It only matters when it matters which if it happens this year will be twice in a decade or so. Two of our recent wins had nothing to do with being fresh but rather Real Madrid like miracles on the final day. Also if you check you will find that most years we win the league our GD is superior to our challengers. I do accept that any reckless pursuit of goals in a match can prove counter productive but in general it is a useful shield and one which can more often than not prove a deterent to those chasing you in a title race.

As I said you will find we normally have the best GD this year we don't and it might cost us. Now I am not that uptight about this, fair is fair, and as you say the last three seasons have been amazing. I have felt we might come up short this year for some time and if we do fair play to Arsenal. Not long to wait now to find out.

no point chasing it. They might score 5 against United, we just need a goal more than the other teams in each game. I'm confident

Not saying we should necessarily chase it, but we shouldn’t forget it.
100%.

I was sat in the family stand on Saturday when Alvarez scored the 5th, First thing Rodri done was sprinted into the net and got the ball and placed it on the spot to kick off again.

The players know we can close the gap on goal difference as it might come into effect.

It would also send a signal to Arsenal. If we won big against Fulham.

Goal difference “more often than not can prove a deterrent to those chasing you in a title race” - what???

I’m hoping you’ve misused the word deterrent, otherwise that’s just bonkers.

Forget the goal difference and concentrate on winning the games! At the end of the day that’s all that matters……
