Right now Pep is looking for conservative solutions, i.e., he relies on the experienced players who know the system and are supposed to keep possession by exchanging many passes. My gut feeling is that such solutions won't work, for Gundo and Bernie are not what they used to be. They can be very important but should not start every game. Pep will have to trust the younger players, starting with Nunes and Foden in midfield, with Kova behind them and supported by Lewis and Gvardiol when we attack, plus Savinho and Doku on the wings. The young players can save the season, the experienced players can help but can't start week in week out.

In a general sense, I agree here.
We know that Pep hates to rush young players. He likes to blood them very slowly, even when they're exceptional. Perhaps especially when they're exceptional. He did it with Phil, of course, and he's done it with Rico. Young players who are in a hurry, however good they are, he sends them on their way with no hard feelings, cf. Palmer.
But needs must here. The younger players have to step up this season, because the circumstances are exceptional. And as you say, it simply isn't envisageable to be playing Gundo and Kova, or even Kev when he gets back to full fitness, twice a week. It's a recipe for them to go straight back to the physio room.
I also now tend to agree that we have to go into the market in January. I'm very wary of it, because you rarely get top quality players in that window. So let's just hope that Txiki left a dossier on another of his unknown jewels.

It’s still sinking in that we’ve lost a PL game. (Sporting and) Brighton won’t be any easier. I think it could be one of those bad weeks we haven’t experienced in a very, very long time, where could realistically lose all 3 games. The international break, not that the majority of our players get a rest, can’t come soon enough.

Just wondering, in one of my many idle moments ,what the reaction will be if Slopp wins a trophy in his first season ,(assuming they won't have just a dozen fit first teamers for a prolonged period) and will the scrbblers and suits have the same attitude as they had with Roberto.

As someone who likes patterns, I’d have been more worried if we hadn’t lost to Bournemouth…….
League Cup defeats and the following league game.

2024: Lost to Spurs in the League Cup then lost to Bournemouth in the League.

2023: Lost to Newcastle the League Cup then lost to Wolves in the League. [Then lost again to Arsenal and it was ‘all over’, ffs.

2022: Lost to Southampton in the League Cup then lost to the rags in the League.

2022: Lost to West Ham in the League Cup then lost to Palace in the League.

People keep on underestimating this team and are far too quick to write them off.
Given our current injury list, we’ve got some cracking players coming back in December/January and they won’t need much resting so 5 in a row is very, very much on.

That would be 4 on the trot if we lose both this coming week...gulp!
