Not nearly as convinced as others that this is must win, though I do think a win gets us very, very close to qualified. Fact of the matter is all five teams have had and will likely continue to have patchy seasons dropping silly points here and there otherwise we wouldn't be occupying positions 3-7. But I do think our stinking run in the autumn and winter is masking the fact that, results wise, we've been pretty good since January.

Well the evidence is in our current league position?

You do realise that the teams below us are more likely to drop points than we are, based on current league positions
Let's take the first 5 games out of the season when we had Rodri. Are we now more likely to drop points than those below us? Chelsea would be above us, so would Newcastle and forest and villa the same points. Anyway, that wasn't my point, my point was there is this feeling that we'll breeze through our next 4 games after villa and I don't think I have the same level of confidence.

No we aren't more likely to drop points, as the last 15 games worth of data tells us that our form is 2nd in the league behind Liverpool.

I don't share any over confidence, but I do think a number of people are seeing us in a totally different light to reality, in terms of the points we are putting on the board.

That's before you account for the games we have to play, as opposed to the games the others have; we haven't been great to watch but the games we face are much 'easier' than the rest.

Look at results and point totals since Christmas, they will tell you we are the least loikely to drop points.

True (although we're the same number of points as 3 other teams and 4 points between 2nd and 7th - which is kinda where the league is anyway!) But rather than go round and round, i take your point, and i hope to god you're right buddy!

The second half of the season table. We have done decent despite the poor performances in February.

Bare in mind, Villa have had to go 5 game win streak recently to get to where they are.

I'll worry more if we lose tonight, but I approach tonight as an opportunity for us to take an almighty step towards securing CL football. I think we only need 9-10pts to make it based on points per game so far this season so, we'd be in a great position.

Chelsea aren't going to do it.

Forest are still likely to slide out of it in my opinion.

I could be wrong, but we're ticking away nicely and from where things were at 2-0 down to Palace, to bag 6pts from that game and Everton we have to be positive about our chances.

What's great about this - and slightly off topic but always worth mentioning - is that no matter what starting point or end point you do, United are always fucking languishing down the bottom!

That, and we're 6pts off the dippers. They had a very good first half of the season but have either run out of steam a bit or are just showing their true level now. Considering we've still got Rodri to return which is instantly a dramatic improvement to our side, it gives me confidence we can challenge again if we have a good summer.

My major concern is injuries. Looking at villa, full squad available. The others have injuries but not to key players. We have our entire spine of Ederson, Stones, Rodri and Haaland missing for the foreseeable. And that is assuming we don't get any more injuries which, the way things have been going, is far from likely.

Of course we can do it but in my view it will be a monumental achievement if we do particularly with Ake out and Foden missing in action.

But they probably have about the same chance as us of playing in the CL next season shite and all as they are.

When you put it that way, a cup final and any kind of European football after the horrendous injury plagued season ain’t that bad

I know they all give us 3 points but 3 points against Villa is more advantageous than 3 points against any of the other 4 teams we have to play
