Here I was thinking Newcastle, Chelsea and Forest had much tougher run ins than us. We can't even get the business done against this Southampton team and we have Bournemouth and Fulham left. Third seems tricky if any of those three in 4th-6th get some good form and ride it through the last game.

Correct. The draw is still raw understandably though….but you are talking facts there.Is what it is. We've also got points with last minute goals against Villa and Everton. Have to beat Bournemouth at home and hopefully that should do it.

I'm working on goal difference but that sounds fine. We would have taken two points from your final two games for CL football ten games ago and killed for it 20 games ago.Opta still predicting 67.

Umm Chelsea play Newcastle this weekend and Chelsea play Forest the last game of the season.
Other than that.. maybe..

In your last example, we won't know if the point today was important until after the season ahs ended.
As it stands right now, a draw is the same as a loss.
You may disagree, but I think saying "we're a point closer to X" not knowing precisely what the final total we will need is, is quite different to saying "we need two wins to be mathematically certain". Whatever the points total we will need is, we are quite literally a point closer to it. Even if it doesn't change the results we currently need to be mathematically certain, we are still a point closer to it.
When people say relegation teams are a point closer to safety, they're not operating under the assumption the teams around them win every game. They're usually operating on the idea that a team needs to get to 40 points.
I could equally say we might look back at the end of the season and realise this is the point that qualified us. That is a real possibility.
I think it's a bit of a semantic argument.
