The Tottenham Thread 12/13

We all knew he'd be up for this. Hope he scores against Arsenal at the Emirates.

he gets a lot of criticism in the press, but I am not sure if most of it is warranted. I certainly wouldn't trust what they say given what they write about Balotelli

Don't worry guys u know I'm spurs for life blue runs through my veins

Huh ?

He can't say white runs through his veins now can he?

Rio would accuse him of being a choc ice.

What I could not understand tactically was why AVB played such a high line, squeezing the play. That left a big gap in behind which was there to be exploited. The fact that when we weren't caught offside we contrived to fuck it up anyway does not make the tactic a success. Had Tevez and Aguero not been unusually profligate we could have been three up at half time, quite apart from the penalty shouts.

Also, the players who worried me most before kick off were Bale and Lennon. Squeezing the play into the middle third removed them as a counter attacking threat. As a result they were anonymous. I would have thought that sitting deeper, inviting City on, but packing the defence and looking to score on the break would have been a more productive strategy.

It almost seemed as if they only scored by accident. They didn't try to score at any point before they did and didn't look they had any intent to. They seemed to want to contain us all game, so when they did score they had even more reason to invite us on because they actually had a lead to defend.

One thing that was REALLY noticeable was how much they miss Luka Modric. They had nobody to carry the ball through the middle, or pass it away quickly but effectively. Things aren't looking good for Spurs at the moment. The sooner they drop Dempsey, the better.

We're missing Dembele actually. I believe we've won almost all the games he has started, and lost or drawn most of the ones he hasn't.

Very unlucky with injuries so far, but yes AVB's insistence on playing Dempsey every game is really pissing me off.

.... Defenders must defend or else find a better place for them to play (I.e Bale).

Hugo Lloris admits he is struggling to accept the idea that Andre Villas-Boas does not consider him as Tottenham's number one.

Lloris signed from Lyon for £8million on transfer deadline day, but he has only started one Barclays Premier League game so far, with Villas-Boas preferring to use the Frenchman in the Europa League.

The Tottenham manager has opted to stick with 41-year-old Brad Friedel in the club's biggest games - a decision that has angered France head coach Didier Deschamps who decided to stick with Lloris as his captain following his appointment after Euro 2012.

Lloris has brushed off speculation that he is unhappy at playing second fiddle to Friedel in the past, but he suggested today that he is not content with the Tottenham manager's rotation system.

"I'm training, I do the maximum, and the coach made his choice," Lloris told L'Equipe after France's 2-1 win over Italy.

"It is difficult to accept. It is a little hard. You will have to ask the coach. I just stay professional."

It seems a strange decision to spend that kind of money on the French Number 1 and then sit him on the bench behind a 41 year old. Maybe Friedel has been playing well, but whats clear is he is not Spurs keeper for the future. Is it worth pissing off Lloris, souring him on the club and leaving him struggling for form due to a lack of gametime just to play the inform Friedel who, in all likelihood will be gone in the Summer?

You have to question hwo much AVB actually wanted Lloris and how much Levy felt it was a value for money signing.

AVB has the players to recreate the side that won the 2005-06 title under Mourinho. A very succesful side and one that is still the blueprint for Chelsea today.

Cech
Gallas-Carvalho-Terry-DelHorno
Essien-Makelele-Lampard
Cole-Drogba-Robben

Lloris
Walker-Gallas-Dawson-AssouEkotto
Dembele-Parker-Dempsey
Lennon-Adebayor-Bale

The term world class gets thrown around way too much in football.

Bale is the closest thing we have to that.

I thought we looked good until Webb screwed us over again. I thought adebayor genuinely went for the ball, but Wilshere and co. Definitely bent the refs ear.

If bale had done a little better with his cross for Defoe we may have put them under real pressure at the end.

Although we were well beaten in the end, neither side looked top 4 quality. For me there is only three big teams and the rest

Adebayor may well hve gone for the ball, but what he got was Carzola's anke, with his stud, about a foot off the floor. Theres not really any argument here, it looked a red card all day long.

Agreed. Definite red card. I think when our resident spud has had a night's sleep and sees it again on the MOTD repeat in the morning, he will reconsider his opinion.

Perhaps, maybe I have rose tinted glasses. It's like when people didn't think Balotelli did anything wrong with Parker. We always seem to back our players.

With the horrible past of Webb, I don't trust his decisions. Carzola rolled around more than a pig in mud.

I won't say that Mario 100% did or didn't mean it but watch it at full speed. If he knew what he was doing, he's more talented than any of us Mancs imagine he is.
