The creativity point is valid. I think they'll struggle against many teams in the league who will pack 10 behind the ball and launch long balls on the counter. At least, I can't see their plan for dealing with this. Modric and VDV were never really replaced and while the midfield they have now is good on paper, it looks all power no finesse.

How did they perform against Palace? I heard Palace were dire but Spurs only won by a penalty?

19 goal opportunities to Spurs against 8 for Palace.

Well I had to go back 10 pages, but I finally found what I actually wrote...

...quite obviously, not all those deals I mentioned are going to come-off.

But one already has (Capoue) and I wouldn't be at all surprised if another player or two signs for Spurs by the end of the transfer window.

Doesn't alter the fact that the player I mentioned from YOUR post, joined a team that cannot even offer Europa League football, above spuds.

Oh, and that other player we talked a while back, signed that extended deal at his current club (Atletico Madrid?) sorry, couldn't remember the name.

I strongly suspect that he went to Southampton because either Spurs weren't interested in signing him or a deal couldn't be reached to everyone's benefit.

If tonight's rumours prove true, it seems like we're in for Willian instead.

Oh... and only posting selective parts of a quote is a cad's trick.

A cad's trick?

I quoted you, are you now saying that comment was not in your post?

It was, therefore it was available to comment on. Nothing had happened on Lamela or the Ajax guys so I didn't add them to the equation, savvy?

You already said spuds were in for him, now you try and say you weren't that interested anyway.

Dress it up how you want, but you failed to sign him, despite Baldini's 'connections'.

Doesn't it worry you that you had 19 chances but only scored via a very generous penalty decision.

strong rumours about willian - must mean bale is off

With the players they have signed, if they get Willian, they won;t miss Bale.

And imo, they will definitely finish top 4, unless Wenger can magic up 3 or 4 worldies, which let's face it, is not going to happen.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Four players were making their Premier League debuts for Spurs and they need just a bit more time to gel properly and get used to the style of play and what's expected of them.

We created 19 scoring opportunities today, that's about one every five minutes - keep that up and the goals will certainly come.

We're three points up on the same stage last season and two points up on the identical fixture.

Didn't realise you played Palace last season.

Ho-hum.

Yes, Palace take the place of Queens Park Rangers, who we drew with at Loftus Road last season.

So two points better-off.

And our first away opening Premier League win since Portsmouth in 2005.

Sigurdsson is bobbins, Spurs really need a quality no.10 if bale leaves. Willian, Coentrao and maybe Eriksen with Bale money and I can't see anything below a top four finish this year.

As you so love all your stats, tables and minutae, it's not the IDENTICAL fixture then is it? Corresponding fixture, yes.

Was at the game today, great atmosphere, but we were too defensive and had no outlet. I hope it was illness as to why we lined up like that.

As for Tottenham, as expected the midfield is very strong, but they lack a number 10, the left winger is settling and the defence is weak. We offered virtually noting upfront, but still caused trouble. Dawson, Walker and Rose (at the moment) are not really top 4 quality.

I have never been much of a stats man and comparing matches to 'corresponding' fixtures is pointless. Not only are we a completely different, team but even if we were the same team much can change in a year. The Chelsea of this season are not the Chelsea of last season. Southampton are better and more established, Norwich have improved etc.

Fk all that shizzle, is the Cherry Tree still open?!

you looked as toothless as a granny who says no to the knucking dragging shrek, you'd do well to score a goal on that performance and beat Derby's lowest points total.

Put it this way I wouldn't put you in my list of teams for the playoffs in the Championship this season if you were still in that division, Freedman and then Holloway have performed a major miracle at yours and they don't even have the ace that you had in a weaker league in Zaha, you need about 8 players.

Yes. We should have probably had a couple more but really lacked the finishing touch. Defoe and Sigurdsson each had a shocking miss.

Don't think the penalty was all that generous. When a defender's arms are extended as far away from the body as Moxey's were it's hard to ignore. It's not as if his hands were down at his side.

And now we have been awarded more penalties in the league this campaign than all of last season...

Just my opinion, but I think AVB intends to switch to 4-3-3 at some point and we won't be playing with a number 10, the creativity would come from the wide areas. Signing Willian and Lamela to replace Bale would be perfect. If we couldn't get Lamela then I wouldn't mind Di Maria as part of the Bale deal. Only part I worry about is so many new players gelling as a team, but I don't mind us selling Bale at all if it means we can build a proper team instead of relying too much on one player.

Hasn't your finishing been the complaint for the last three or four years though? Why is it going to be better this time? 3 shots on target (same as Palace) doesn't look good.

only one game but i was pretty unimpressed with paulinho, didn't seem to offer anything going forward against a pretty piss poor palace side.

Well couple of things -
--Many of our players played international fixtures in midweek, which probably affected our performance (like it did Chelsea's in the 2nd half imo).
--Many new players in the team, will require a bit of time to gel.
--We were without our £90 million player, if you want to look at it that way. The other way to look at it is we don't have the replacements for him in yet. If we sign a couple creative wide players like Willian or Lamela with the Bale money then I won't be too worried about our creativity.

For the poster above who says Paulinho wasn't that good, he was given MOTM and I thought he was very good personally. Not a flashy player really, but quality nonetheless. Capoue was outstanding though.

Can't we wait for the traditional end of season autopsy before the excuses get trotted out by the WHL faithful ;-)

What excuses?

We won a very tricky away fixture.
