Yeah, and alot of people were saying it was a great ball from Shrek. It wasn't. RVP has to run sideways to get under it before it crosses his body so that he can strike it clean. It's such a difficult technique to pull off. It seems to be a Dutch thing with Van Basten and Berkamp also masters at these types of volleys. Just a shame it happened on THAT night.jay_mcfc said:I think you're all totally wrong. It's one thing to score a volley when facing the ball and coming on to it, but a volley when the ball is coming over your shoulder from quite a deep pass is something totally different. One of the hardest things to do in football and he absolutely nailed it.
The general consensus is that Di Canio's was the best ever premier league goal. If that's the case, this one now should be, although my own personal opinion would be Bergkamp's against Newcastle.
Finally, cut out the shite about rag overdrive. I'm a blue posting on a blue forum. We should be able to discuss things without the inferiority complex. I wouldn't give a fuck if he was playing for Grimsby or Barcelona, I am talking about the goal.

You'll get labeled a rag in a minute.jay_mcfc said:Without a doubt the best volley the prem has ever seen. To be watching that ball all that way from over his shoulder then hit it, on the run, like that is just outrageous.
A million times better than any standing volley where the ball comes from in front of the players eye line

Ha bad defending. First of all Van Persie makes a nice run from about 30 yrds from goal, which the defender doesn't see but then that far from goal 99.9% of the time it wouldn't be a problem. He then would never dream that Van Persie would hit it first time, so he's not trying to defend that.
In a way you can say it was bad defending not to be ready for it, but then there's not a defender in the world that would have been.
Sometimes you just have to give credit where credit is due. I was looking at it coming off his shin but it didn't.
