"The Voice" of football

The difference with people then was that they were first and foremost journalists.

FWIW I always thought moston was tiresome and full of cliches. Davies was far superior and could judge the emotion perfectly.

These days you've literally got fanzine writers like mitten passed off as journalists. Not much difference tbf with the WhatsApp wankers.

Hopefully there will be a new wave of sports journos who aren't agenda driven red appeasing arse kickers. They will be more interested in reporting facts than passing off prejudice as insight.

We can but hope.
Good post. The problem with todays commentators is games are far too "stats" orientated, listeners bombarded with banal statistics that mean nothing - "he has never scored a home PL goal on a Wednesday night" etc. No one gives a fuck.

In all fairness, Stuart Hall (whilst not "the voice" of football IMHO) did a decent job when going "around the grounds" or half time/full time analysis

He always painted a picture with words that seemed to go above and beyond what was required (just tell us the score, who scored and was it a decent match!!)

So, a good voice of football, just a shame he led his life the way he did
