Remember watching it for first time at me grandma’s in Cadishead and being utterly mesmerised by the football scene, replete with the score in the screen; then being utterly heartbroken seeing Billy find the dead bird in the bin. So many incredible characters; so much intense (and heart- breakingly brilliant) dialogue. I used to use it as a teaching resource for my year 6 kids. They loved it.Is two correct answers

The tears in that smallest kid’s eyes. They didn’t know they were going to be caned for that scene. You can tell.Read the book in 3rd or 4th year at school, each kid taking turns to read out a section and trying to work out the dialect written down!
Showed the film to my girls when they were maybe 10 or 12 and they refused to believe teachers could cane kids or give a clip around the ear!
