The Willy post game thread (merged)

I slated him on here and not making excuses but I just wanted us to win with our strongest team possible.

I was wrong and think many if us owe Willy a huge apology.

He not only became a hero saving three penalties he also had a great game in general.

His penalty saves eclipsed Nicky Weavers at Wembley !

To listen to his interview on the pitch when I got back from Wembley today I felt more than guilty.

So Willy this is a massive apology, no excuses but many of us fans can be dicks at times.

Hopefully more will add their apologies too !

Weavers celebration beats his though :-)

Apology to Pellegrini you mean, he stuck to his beliefs and wasn't swayed by popular opinion by fans or the press/media for "joey hart".

not scared to admit, I got tears in my eyes watching the willy interview, when I got back earlier today

Nice to se it meant so much, we blues sometimes need to give our heads a wobble, me included

I apologised in a different thread but I'll add MY APOLOGY in this one as well.

Brilliant performance in the shoot-out and a great save to keep it all-square.

I don't ever remember a 'keeper making three out of the five before. Yes, teams have scored two or less before, but that's usually because one of the takers has hit a post, just missed or done a new Stan Edwards and put it into orbit.

But three saves? I don't recall that before.

if you watch yayas penalty the angle that also shows willy ,willy didn't know we had won it on that spot kick, you can see him wagging his finger to yaya and then he realises weve won it,must of gone to the same maths classes as mr pellers :)

Watching it again (ok numerous times) the first and third penalty saves were astonishing. The first was heading towards the top corner; the third, Willy's last hand movement to reach down to the ball is brilliant. The step forward he took each time helped but the way he waited until the last moment to move, his concentration, focus and power in his spring just superb. His reaction, the tears already welling after each save showed the emotion of the week and the growing realisation that he was to become an unlikely hero and write his name forever in City folklore. Just wonderful.

three out of four actually - 75% save rate - now that's special!

Hope some paper somewhere had the headline "Man City's Willy too big for Liverpool" on the back pages.

I was seriously against him being in net and I'll hold my hands up,glad I was wrong,or to be fair he proved me wrong.

18 pages of apologies says it all really.

My take on it was that he was trying to get to Mignolet to offer his condolences but then saw a blur of blue heading his way and thought "fuck that you scouse twat... I'm having a bit of this"

oh and by the way... sorry
