The Wire

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit

Quality character though, what makes it stand out for me is the list of brilliant characters in the show, most good shows have 3 or 4, the wire has 20 or so. Omar, Freeman, Bunk, Bubbs, McNulty, Stringer, Avon, D, Poot, Bodie, Herc, Carver, Presbo, Daniels, Keema, Frank, the young lads, Bunny, Marlo, Prop Joe, Norman, Cutty, Slim Charles, Brother Mulzone and I've probably missed some. Loved it.
That's it, so many good characters, and every season brought more.

You missed Wee Bay and the awesome Snoop, who did time for murder in real life. To borrow from Martin Tyler "I don't think it'll ever be topped", although Breakin' Bad came pretty damned close. Series 4 of The Wire was the best thing I've ever watched

Not sure how you came to that conclusion, given that a large percentage of the people in it are actual gangstas, not actors.

It was more the cops to be honest. The cool lead guy who had his own problems, the two buffoons always making mistakes, the powerful and always right woman etc. All a bit clichéd though I have the entire collection on my tv so maybe I'll get back into it.

I knew I'd forget someone, how could I forget Wee Bay "word up Bay" and I didnt forget Snoop, I just couldnt remember her name! There are other good characters as well that havent been mentioned.

I agree about McNulty, his character is a tad cliched. But if you stick with it, you may find out that Kima isn't as perfect as she appears.

I love The Wire. Easily my favourite programme of all time.

I don't think it was overacted. I've mentioned before, I know a guy that was Baltimore City P.D. for eleven years. I asked him about the authenticity of the programme. He told me The Wire is as real as it gets when it comes Baltimore. Except, real life there is worse. He was actually in a couple of episodes.

It was criminally (pun intended) over looked for awards, but that was filmed in B'more, not using well known actors and not in California or New York like most award winning shows, was a bit of snobbery from the Golden Globes and the Emmys. I think its interesting the big universities such as Brown and Harvard have offered it as a case study in courses including sociology due to it realism and its been the subject of quite a number of academic articles, all adding to its worth and again is a credit to is realism.
