The worrying thing is

It was clear the majority of the players wanted Hughes to stay paticularly the likes of Bellamy, Given, Tevez, Lescott, Bridge and Barry and SWP. TBF barring Bridge and Barry recently the others have been top notch. I just wonder if they are going to WANT to play for Mancini like they did Hughes.

And this has been my arguement from day one, and not just that, Mancini or whoever the 'better' manager was going to be, will want his own players, meaning they have to gel. It is a vicious circle with failure written all over it, unfortunatley for us, the fans. Mancini will get more patience from most on here though, as he has no links to united.

Leave it Pige. I was a Hughes inner. His utd past was of no concern of mine. I liked his style but our defense and mentality are shite.

We dont start playing til we go a goal behind. Then when ahead we panic. The players are talented but their mindset (ie the think the mangement can effect) was not "fit for purpose". That didnt inprove in 16 months, if anything, it got worse.

Just get behind the new guy. Support the club and stop favouring Hughes over City. Life goes on.

I dont agree with this, other than Bellamy and De Jong i dont think any of the others have perfromed anywhere near to their capabilities,as great as he is even Given has had some real dodgy moments.

We will never know though will we as he wasnt allowed to see the season or even the christmas period out!!!

sadly a lot of hughes buys arent good enough for CL IMO

And neither will Villa players, nor Spuds players. The Arse players have not exactly set the Chimps League on fire, either.

The various levels to which a club has to climb is quite clear. Barcodes ten points ahead - their team will perhaps make a decent fist of bottom half of prem. Teams wishing to play in the Europa league have to move to another level - Fulham and Everton are struggling to come to terms with it. Champions League is another level, and to do well (semis) is stratospheric. The team with which Barcelona won last June was staggering.

It's a good sign when you see a manager get sacked and a number of players protest, but once the dust settles and maybe we start picking up some good wins the players will eventually get over it, i wanted hughes out and i will admit the way he was sacked by the club was shocking and i felt a bit sorry for him, but like i say once results come in the players will forget about all that stuff with hughes, hopefully like most of this forum will to.

thats bollocks mate, Mancini will be given more time because he has proved he can win things.

Its not bollocks. I know people who wanted Hughes out before he got appointed, due to his united history. I dare say there are some on here who have the same narrow-mindeness. And the simple counter-arguement to the track record is that he has years on Hughes, giving him an advantage in terms of being able to have had more time to win things. His record looks good, yes, but there is no saying Hughes couldn't have gone onto win the CC, starting his trophy collection as a manager. We all have to start somewhere and I believe he was oncourse achieve our first trophy for years. Also, if Mancini is so good, how comes he was never linked to the madrid jobs, the barcs jobs et al? The only link i remember of late is when Leicester wanted him before Pearson!
Hughes has been a manager since 1999 - 2009, Mancini from 2001-2008. Hughes was hardly turning down big offers was he. As for not being linked with Madrid here you go ;)

Chicken or egg?

what Im saying is that for 200 million pounds (plus) I dont think we have players of sufficient quality to do well even if we become a top 4 team, RM will have to strengthen the team, especially the defence and midfield.
