Wenger will want 20m for him, we will offer ten and settle at fifteen. (How hard is this negotiation crap)
Then Walcott will turn us down because won't have guaranteed start. And the final bit about the guaranteed start has probably cost us all our other targets more than valuation IMO. We have bloody great players and dislodging them from the side may be putting off some acquisitions.
Largely agree, but this can be a good thing... it naturally filters out those that aren't sure of themselves.
The way I see it is this:
We are offering players the chance to play. If they shine, they can be heroes, if they fail, then no hard feelings, but they'll be moved on.
If they want to progress in their careers, they HAVE to go through this barrier at any top club. Modric will have to do it at Madrid, just as Hazard has to do it with Chelsea.
Rodwell's probably thought "I'm good - I've been at Everton, and could probably stay if I wanted to... but if I want to KNOW how good (or not) I am, I have to give it a go". By signing, that's already a positive attitude in my book.... good start.
Admittedly, Rodwell's not yet got the kudos of Modric or Hazard, but the same principle applies - they have to step into a team of higher quality players and see if they sink or swim.
