They smelt of pubs,

The best band around at the time of my formative years, explained more to me and my brother than our parents ever did. Lucky to see them 18 times in and around Manchester.

Weller comes across at times as pillock in interviews, but meet him, his band/crew all are sound

I miss those concerts for the excitement, anarchy and bedlam

The only full concert available on youtube

the best band in the uk bar none
simple 3 piece setup that turned heads and was so tight and never undercut or mugged off the fans.

in a way was glad they never made it big the usa ? weller never loved the limelight and stardom of usa
the next step for the jam was the usa and turning into the clash but weller was not having any of that ?

the jam spilt was a couple of years to soon for me it defo had 1 or 2 very good albums left in them. the early style council stuff was very much still weller in jam ish mold ? speak like a child. solid bond. shout to the top. walls come tumbling down. all could have been jam songs,

i do feel for bruce foxton and rick buckler ? weller could have done more for both of them and thrown them a bone every now and then. but court battles and weller's ego paid for any reunion

I read somewhere that his his dad John had an ambition for them to headline at Madison Sq. Gardens as he was an ex boxer

I was lucky enough to travel to New York for his Hit Parade launch when he played three nights at Irving Plaza. Must have been 95% British, here is the set list for the first night

You work and work and work till you die, cos theres plenty more fish in the sea to fry.

Smithers Jones (Foxton's song admittedly but Weller's voice gave it the punch)
THE song of life from the late 70s to now! Never mentioned the word “globalization,” but once they’d found as many cheap fish as possible locally, they realized the sea was much bigger than they thought!

It is only today, in 2022, when people are realizing the serious consequences of the disruption of a global supply chain, often sourced from politically and economically hostile far flung locales, that corporations are starting to understand the value of local sourcing and manufacturing.

Have no problem expressing my undying devotion to The Jam. They were the backdrop of my life at a place and time of great importance.

Nov 1979, Manchester Apollo, opened by The Vapors. Eton Rifles had run to the top (#3) of the charts and the place was rocking. I was with my girlfriend and a few other mates from Ashton Grammar in the front of the balcony. It was (almost) 16 year old nirvana!

Ah, the good old days of concerts, school dos, sneaking into pubs, and learning all about shagging! :-)
