They smelt of pubs,

Where have you been? Thanks for posting, need to keep them on the front page of BM. I was lucky enough to see them 18 times.

As an 17 year old it was for me, an affirmation that my generation had a future. Incredible nights, and they were only on stage for about an hour and a quarter!!

The raw energy and ferocity of their playing will always stay with me.

In November 1979 my older brother, me and a couple of others were at the Mcr Apollo, for the Setting Sons tour, we were literally hanging onto the stage for most of the time, (the first six rows of seats were removed for punk/new wave gigs). Then they started Eton Rifles, and the whole crowd got loud and giddy, my brother disappeared from beside me....

Suddenly I saw him on stage stood on stage, stood near Bruce's microphone. Mr Foxton stood back and beckoned big Nick to sing he chorus. At which point he was rugby tackled by the sound crew. and chucked outside.

But to me he will always be their 4th member as the band's manager John said ' The best band in the fucking world'

yep, the best band in the fucking world

great story matey and what a privilege to see them so many times, never got the chance, but they are still my number 1 band ever, when you listen to the live gigs you can hear the buzz from the fans, down in the tube station must have been amazing, when you hear the fans singing, down in the tube station at midnight oh oh oh oh, it brings a cold shiver down my spine, wow

I was also at that gig as a spotty 17 year old. The 'John' in question wasn't just their manager but Paul Weller's dad. He managed his son for some thirty years, from the early years of The Jam through the Style Council and into his solo career. Even before I got to your final paragraph, I was reminiscing about the way John introduced the band on stage that night. Funny how we remember these things.

In 2001, Weller announced a solo acoustic concert, but outside the UK.

My brother was 40 in 2001 so I asked his wife,if I could take him to see Weller in Ireland

All sorted we took the seacat(?) from LiVARpool and arrived in Dublin for an unique night.

Him on stage for about on his own, for me he relaised he could play his 'older' songs without losing credibity..

Then in 2007 for Hit Parade....

Nous? But yes, you're absolutely right. Where's the fucking anger in song lyrics now? Apathy appears to be the order of the day.
The anger is still there, you have to look away from the tripe being broadcast over the mainstream airwaves though (a bit like simply dead on mogadon) and go off piste to get some decent tunes/lyrics.
