They smelt of pubs,

I think It's time they, Paul, Rick, Bruce, settled the differences and talk ? I know Bruce had a cancer scare not so long ago ? it would be so so sad, if they part this world without a get-together and even dare I say play a couple of songs together,

the fans still feel a big part of their life is missing and want all 3 to take the biggest bow and thank you for what they did for us as young people and the guided light into the real world we all faced

The anger is still there, you have to look away from the tripe being broadcast over the mainstream airwaves though (a bit like simply dead on mogadon) and go off piste to get some decent tunes/lyrics.
Admittedly, it is still there. You just have to look harder to find it. The difference, of course, is that the likes of The Jam used to chart regularly thereby bringing anti-establishment lyrics to the masses. These days, most of the acts with a social conscience are rap artistes, a music genre I generally detest. One exception - albeit with a distinct punk influence - is Bob Vylan. Check this out for seething rage.

Sorry if already posted but this is decent:

all the proper jam fans will agree with me here ? Weller said the spilt was about the jam not being able to evolve to something like the style council ? Bollocks, that tour and the one before, was not just a 3-piece band, they had brass, female vocals, keyboards, just like the style council ?

was it right to split yes, at the time it was
but they should have had an open door and wait and see and a come back or play together again should have happened,

the spilt sort of written out Bruce and Rick from the history books involving the jam ? Weller takes all the credit and awards, because they seem to think the songwriter was the band the other 2 were just musicians, both Bruce and Rick held major parts in the jam, the basslines and drum rhythms hold most of the songs together,

It was the first ever show, i think channel 4 aired on the 2nd of November with countdown or something like that, the jam played on the 5th of november 1982
Ta.
I was sat on my uncles couch eating me tea (stewed steak and chips on a friday) when it was on. Eighteen years old and full of it. I have the video cassette recording somewhere. Best set ever on the Tube.
