Things that are not fair in life

Autism and idiopathic scoliosis. My son has both. He's 16 and this should be a great if not memorable part of his life. Been 18 months since scoliosis was diagnosed and his first consultant moved jobs before seeing him. This second one has so far not been in the hospital.in the day I went with him.for his mèeting and assessment/ plan of action. Then last week cancelled the rescheduled appointment. I have a mobile number for his appointed nurse and I tried to call to ask what's going on, no answer. Sent her a text voicing my concerns he's being overlooked and forgotten about... no reply. Poor lad. I also don't really have a fucking clue how to get the hospital to move this along, I was told corrective surgery is the only option in this case as the curve developed quite rapidly... that was over a year ago..

It has been a bad couple of days pain and movement wise for me but coming on here and reading these posts has made me remember that I am lucky. I can still move about slowly, what is wrong with me is not life threatening and I got up this morning!

Good wishes and hugs to everyone suffering and I hope that things improve for folk. :-) :-)

My 60 year old sister who's had cancer 3 times, got low white blood cell count, low immune system and got early signs of dementia being told week after her 60th birthday (in March 2023) that she's deemed fit for work and had to start proving she was applying for jobs. To me that's not fair
Incredible keep trying it’s difficult when you feel down and poorly but I think they refuse automatically on first attempt just keep filling in those ridiculous forms and appeal. It’s not long ago women received a state pension at sixty.
Scandalous to raise the pension age as they have done for men and women best of luck and take care all the blues suffering from health issues and service cuts.

Just an update on my sister. Been chatting to her quite a bit. GP has given her Sertraline to help with her being stressed and anxious. She haa an electric and gas meter card that she tops up. Guy in shop stopped taking money from her as she was going in every few days (forgetting she'd been in earlier) and she is £400 in credit on electric card. £60 on gas. Cousin's wife who worked in benefits office was round yesterday helping her fill out some forms. She has telephone appointment re PIP next Friday so she's a list of things to read out to them as suggested by cousin's wife, our brother and myself. Thanks again to everyone for your help, support, messages etc.
Can someone sit with her during the phone appointment to prompt her? She is entitled to have someone with her.

I believe that everyone should be entitled to receive the state pension after 40 years at work.
Old age arrives quickly and many don't, or won't make it to 66 or 67 or 70 or whatever it's going to be (if we ever do get the pension).
The older we get before drawing our pensions, the less precious time we will have with our spouses to do things together. ( ie hobbies or travel).
Our motivation or physical condition to do those things will probably be another thing to overcome.
Ok. I understand that many people love what they do and may want to continue working after they have done 40 years, so let them and good luck to them.
But retirement should be an option after 40 years.

Mate you should complain to PALS , we had the same issue with our autistic daughter, appointment after appointment canceled , due to apply for her school place and no idea what or if anything was wrong. Within a month of laying it all out to PALS she was seen, diagnosed and a support plan put in place.

That’s awful, have you tried contacting the head of the hospital/NHS trust?

Your hospital will also have a patient liaison officer who should handle this kind of thing

You could also officially complain

After that I’d be going to the local press to see if I could escalate it into a story.

It’s a bit of a shit thing to have to do, and everyone knows the stresses the NHS are under because of 13 years of austerity, but it’s your son, so ends justify the means.
