I remember at senior school, we didn’t have ‘fountain or cartridge’ pens. We had a bit of wood with a nib on the end, our desks had ink wells which the teacher topped up with ink (Quink). 1970View attachment 92784
My school appointed "Ink Monitors" of which I was one. Almost with every top up there was a drop or two spilled which invariably got on to the pupil's shirt or jacket and often got me a battering.

My English teacher ( for three years) was a very scary man, he could nail you with a blackboard eraser no matter where you sat. He teached from what looked like a church pulpit, I remember him whacking a friend of mine in the ribs with an umbrella in front of the whole school during assembly

He obviously teached you goodly
