Things that are pretty much obsolete.

Mostly auto over here (Australia) but the wife and I both still drive manuals and you can still buy them. We semi jokingly refer to them as millennial anti theft devices as young kids who steal cars can’t drive a manual.
My kids will be learning in a manual, still a good skill to have
if you want them to be car thieves

I was a yuppie and had one for work , loved it
Me too. I had this one...

I thought that was the case.
Last time I visited UK I ordered a hire car and forgot all about the manual thing.
Until I got in it. Had to remember to change gears.
They died out here many years ago through lack of demand.
I put my automatic in for a service. I sat in the courtesy car, revving the engine until one of the mechanics put his head through the open window and shouted "It's a f*cking manual". Embarrassed or what.

Can you still buy new manuals?
I tried to order some pick ups back in 07, wanted manual transmissions. Ford, chevy, Dodge and Toyota dealers all looked at me like I was crazy. The Dodge dealer was the only one that put a package together for me, as it happens I went with Toyota. 16 years down the road I would never touch a manual again, these new transmissions are incredibly good.

I was in Oz for 3 months last year seeing my grandson. I used my sons car every day.
I came home and was pleasantly suprised that my 13 year old car started first time as I was sure the battery would be flat. Unfortunately something had gone wrong with the gear box as it just would not go into drive.

And then I remembered I had a clutch which I had to press down, select first gear, bring the clutch slowly up until it met the revs of the accelerator that I was .........

Didn't you notice there wasn't a D (or R) to shift it into before you started revving? Or do you usually drive a 1975 Daf 44?
