Hey all.

Anyone been to Bath?

I've always wanted to visit and was planning a weekend away (weekend after next).
Originally planning Oxford but little returning hotel wise (may have left too late so I may book later in the year).

But I've found a deal at the Apex City of Bath Hotel which looks pretty nice (central and has swimming pool etc).

But....Oxford is rammed full of sight seeing places and I'm less sure about Bath (at least going with my son).
Roman Baths (obvs_ and it's only for Saturday and Sunday so might be worth taking a punt as they say...

Thanks!

Yes, my son went to University there - and absolutely loved it. For us as parents, it felt safe, but for him, maybe slightly dull if you don’t get out of there every other weekend, but Bristol is up the road - however, definitely plenty to see for a first time visitor.

Some good boozers too.

Definitely worth a visit.

Thanks - think you've tapped the idea into the net.

My lad's 12 so hardly painting the town red, but looks like there's plenty to do (and I've always been drawn to going).

The hotel is the Apex City of Bath and has a very decent offer (given how pricy these things can get).

On the roman baths thing: something I'd have to book ahead (I've no idea how many there are that can be booked for a swim - I just know that famous roof top one you see with images of Bath).

Also have to factor in the possibility it may piss it down, given the current bad weather.

Thanks all!

You can book ahead, and should, get the latest slot they have, it's amazing in the evening. You can't swim in the roman bath, historical monument and all, but the tour is quite good. Look out for Brian Cant.

The rooftop pool/spa isn't far from your hotel, easy walk, and is heated by the same springs as the Roman one. Once again, book ahead. Great views.

Sally Lunns is near the bath house and is famous for buns. The building is nearly 400 years old. Very nice breakfasts.

Interesting to read that, my sons put Bath down as his first choice for uni, had a really good feel about the campus and the place too. He did wonder about the nightlife aspect of it as he likes to go to gigs a lot but thought the same thing about Bristol not being far away.

Selfishly, I wanted him to choose it as we’re looking forward to visiting if he does go there!
