Mid 90's Maine Road-esque sloping style netting or ones with a stansion at the back like the old Wembley nets.
In those days, English coaches did little work with the ball, believing it was best to leave the players ”hungry” for it. Bonkers: “Ok lads, you are footballers, so we will train by running up and down the stand. You can kick the ball on Saturday.”Teams coming out and just kicking a single ball around in the warm-up, taking turns to shoot at the keeper.
Unbelievable but true. It was the norm when I first went to a game (I go back a long way).
Players wearing tights.A drop ball with a player from each side going for it
Players wearing sweat bands on their wrist (Peter Withe)
Players with those weird white strips on their nose (Fowler)
Fans queuing up over night for tickets
I see Ron Atkinson is alive and well.Reducers.
There was a cigar smoker stinking the place outThe smell of beer, tobacco and farts when stood on the terraces
Also the lino checking a players studs when coming on as a subThe "occasional" warm up was two players kicking a ball to each other on either side of the pitch. And it was a novelty to see that
Only three match officials
The lino on the dugout side had the responsibility of checking the player/s entering the field of play
Only two named subs allowed
Jordan Pickford says hi.Goalkeepers kicking their feet against the post to clear the mud from their studs.
He’d do it on AstroTurf against us if it would buy a few seconds more, or minutes…Jordan Pickford says hi.
