Thinking of immigrating

Looking for peoples opinions on moving away, not entirely sure where, I like Canada and Australia and feel like I'm sick of Britain, crime is sky high, eu legislations are fucking us something ridiculous, no opportunities for work so I want out.

Me and my partner are talking about it, leaving family and all is tough but I really want to do it, right now we both work full time in professional jobs, I work in marketing but don't have any qualifications for it(is this an issue?)

Anyone on here done the same, pros and cons, etc.

thanks for any help I do get

i'm popping in this thingy.

This is so subjective mate, suffice to say I would suggest trialling the move, if at all possible.

My girlfriend and I made the decision to move back to the UK from the states. She's an American, and I'm English, we lived together for a few years in the US, and moved back here in 09'

For me, personally, England has got much more of what I want right now, where as the US has got a lot of what I think I will desire when I get to retirement. However, my feeligns have been heavily influenced by where I was living in the US.

If at all possible, give it a try, together, for a couple of years if you can (enough time for the honeymoon period to wear off), and make a decision after that. While it may seem like a massive adventure, uprooting can be incredibly lonely.

That said, the missus and I have experienced that in the UK also.

i'm only going for a nosy, i'm not thinking of working if i leave these shores. if i did decide to sell up anytime soon i'd go with the intention of buying a business out there.

Wherever you go, you take yourself and your problems with you, I have known many people that have moved to different Countries and Cities, for a while whilst it's all new things are great, but most find that within a short time the problems they thought they had got away from are still there!

Just don't be under any illusions!

good advice.
i'm a pretty happy bloke, i can be happy anywhere.
my theory is.

there will still be tax.
there will still be crime.
there will still be illness
there will still be rags.

the difference though is its fucking warm.

Go for it . I`ve worked away in the past and I`m thinking off doing so again as there is no real prospects for work in Britain at the moment unless I go down South . Thinking of Oz or N. Zealand , may just sell up and go travelling for a few years its getting impossible to earn a decent wage week in week out .

love the snow too :)

I'd love to visit Canada, never been. I do enjoy skiing, but never get the opportunity these days.

I'd love to visit their mountains, I really enjoy hiking and backpacking (hunting as well, for my sins) and think the mountains incredible.

I lived in Colorado a while back, and I loved it there, fully intend on retiring there.

Genuinely serious question m8.

Wouldn't it bother you that Bears and big Cats hang about in gardens in America (Not everywhere obviously)?

Go out to air your washing and WHOOSH no fuckin' arm.

haha, well in the few years I lived in Colorado, it was never an issue.

The bears in the rockies are black bears, we had a shotgun that fired bean-bags, one shot and the bear would grumpily trundle away. They are only really dangerous when with a cub, then the rule is to not get between them. Plus, you would never go hiking without bear mace (n.b. I got sprayed with it once, do not ever get on the receiving end). They also suggest making a lot of noise when hiking so the bears can hear you. Generally if they are with a cub, they will bugger off.

As for big cats, never saw one. Generally they hear you much sooner than you could imagine, and are long gone.

The biggest threat there was elks. If you youtube elk in estes park you'll see what I mean. in the autumn they are everywhere, and when the stags get frisky they will attack anything.

Wyoming was interesting, I was there for a few months as well. I had to explain to some german tourists that it probably wasn't safe to walk down a hill towards a herd of bison.

Saw a couple of moose once also, scarily large creatures.

The question is have you ever been to the countries that you are planning to up sticks and go to,or are they based on romantic ideas and notions fuelled by tv programmes filmed in the nicest places in the best conditions. What I'm saying is be extremely realistic, the grass may appear greener on the other side but it invariable isnt.Basically it is more like same shit, different country. I'm not trying to put you off but you'd be surprised at the amount of Brits ' living the dream' have fucked up big time and are heading back to Blighty in their droves.
Go there and rent for 6 months and leave your holiday head at the airport but take your brains with you. Many do the opposite and regret it. Do loads of research and then do some more.
