I think his post has more relevance than yours, I am not sure what point you are making. He is saying we have a lot of cranes but also a lot of Shiite on the streets.

You seem to be suggesting the city is a garden of roses and this is a one off.

In broad daylight , next to the central library , a violent attack

If you think the city is in a good state you should travel more because it isn’t .

Think you are putting two and two together and coming up with 10 there pal. Where exactly did I say the city is in a good state? Where did I sugest it's a bed of roses ? I happen to work in construction and think that that the development work in the city is a positive thing? But that's not exactly the same as thinking all fine is it? I have also done a fair bit of travelling so am well aware exactly how things are in Manchester compared to other places past and present. Finally if you want to talk about relevance i think you need to firstly understand what posts are about!

Yep, too much investment in soulless buildings and not people, sick sad society !
.

You are right of course. We don't need offices and places for people to live and thriving business in the City. Who needs investment, housing and jobs that bring money into the City?? Crazy idea that!! The council, Leese and Burnham and co should not be encouraging this sort of thing! After all it only boosts their coffers thru taxes and allows them to spend more money on welfare helping those in need, education and policing! Yep who needs new cranes when weve got empty run down mills , they should do the trick and raise the cash we need as a City. Can't beleive I missed that one!

His post is there isn’t enough cranes to remove the scum . It’s the paradox re cranes and the street life shit. He isn’t criticising the construction industry just what is happening on the streets

You posted it’s a couple of scrotes as if it’s a casual one off but it isn’t, I am embarrassed about the zombies on the street spiced out of their head and the youngsters in my team getting mugged . Piccadilly gardens and just the general grime.

Sorry but you are reading way too much into my post. I am well aware of the problem the City faces I see it on a regular basis. Much much more needs to be done to sort out the problems get people into housing, clean up the streets and reduce crime.

You have said that already and no one responded so I will ask. What has increased building work in the city got to do with a couple of low life twats stealing a bike?
No one responded because there is nothing more to add. The city centre of Manchester is a fucking dump.

Be good if you could join the dots and help us mere mortals!
It's not rocket science. Some posters on here think big numbers of cranes (more than the rest of the UK apparently) in our city centre is something to get giddy about and is symptomatic of a well-heeled, thriving city centre. The reality is quite something else. Our city centre is an absolute shithole. A filthy, decrepit, spiced-out mess. It's an absolute grade A tip. Take a walk from Piccadilly train station, down through the "gardens" along Market St, past the Arndale and onto Deansgate. Do it via any route. Look down, look around. Utter shite. Filthy. Pissed up, drugged up, you name it, every street has it as you meander your way around the centre. I'm no shrinking violet. I lived in town, I've worked and work in some of the poorest boroughs, but our city centre is abhorrent. A fucking embarrassment. I used to love meeting me mum for a brew. a chat, a wander round town. I wouldn't dream of doing that now. Not a fucking chance. Full of low life chancers, packing out the streets. Anyone says different is talking through their lying arse. Manchester city centre. Shithole.

I can't see anything to redeem the city centre it's an abomination.

If the middle-classes were prepared to pay more tax, this problem around the homeless and begging would significantly resolve itself. To everyone’s benefit.

However, in the main, as a social grouping, they’re manifestly not prepared to properly invest in their immediate environment. Shortsighted madness.

You are not wrong Jonny. But I do think you are confusing two issues. Development is good as it brings money into the City and more importantly gives the council more to spend. They certainly won't get any more from central government. It's how they spend it via welfare and policing that will eventually help sort out the issues you highlight.

Fucking state of this....broad daylight,on our streets

Unbelievable,I remember a few years ago, was waiting in picc-gardens for the ex-gf,when the pissheads/druggies were giving it big time abuse to everyone,women/kids
Everyone just looking at their phones. Then one fker gets his cock out & pissed in front off the mother & kids.the mother said something to him he just said fk off bitch,& started to confront her,i looked around there were bigger & younger guys than me,but no one was willing to stand up to him.
Anyway i got up & told him to do one,he went fking mental like a madman.he started heading to me & i went to him then he pulled a blade out.
I just thought fk you you prick your going down.he swung it at me & with that threw one good punch & he was sparkled.
I went to see how the mother was & apologized, she thanked me & was bout to leave, when a couple off his mates came running over anyway shit all happened as some guys stood up with me,told them take your mate with you and do one...
Sad Times we live in now..

From Piccadilly to the end of market street is a shithole - pretty much has been since I have known. Rest of town seems ok to me. Spinningfileds is great. Ancoats great. Castle field very nice. Area around town hall is pleasant as is king street and deansgate.

Spend 6 days a week in town and it’s a great place.

Totally disagree - I worked 4 years in the city centre and I hated it. Shit transport, obnoxious and rude people and the flats are all designed for the flash harry's of this world.
Horrible.

Each to their own. I remember going in the great northern warehouse when I was 5 or 6 to the car auctions. That is when Manchester was a shithole. I have worked in the city centre 20 plus years and been a pleasure. Can’t label all flat owners as flash Harry’s!

Yes but unless you are earning £50k plus or married all the flats around the centre are totally out of reach for most people. Manchester Council can deny it all it wants but it is slowly phasing out the locals and it's a great shame. It's not the city that I grew up in.

That’s right.
If Piccadilly Gardens and the stretch of road to Piccadilly Station was sorted out, there wouldn’t be much wrong with the city centre.

We pay, as a nation, a reasonable amount of tax. True, it's not Scandinavian in its levels, but it's certainly sufficient. The problem doesn't lie in the amount of tax: homelessness/drugs/begging wouldn't be altered one iota by any increase. The problem lies in the political will (not easy, but achievable) - and a cultural shift (much harder). We just don't seem to care about what we have become as a people and a place.
