Whoever he is, he has a real hard on for city. It's odds on that he's a fan of either the rags, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool or Everton. They seem the most bitter about our good fortune.

His twitter has a few digs at city so he is certainly bias against us.

Not only do I have several accounts with HSBC I am also a shareholder
I shall be writing to them today to ask if they are aware that one of their employees is potentially bringing the bank's name in to disrepute, or whether his actions could potentially lose the bank any customers?

I believe that Ed honestly thought that if he used enough big words and technical jargon that no-one would be able to understand a word he was saying and so would just bow to his ‘better’ judgement and this in turn would help perpetuate the myth that he is an expert on such matters. I’m sure that he thought he could just blag it, and in his capacity as a recognised financial expert this would help his career prospects with HSBC.

He might have got away with it as well if it hadn’t have been for those pesky kids on BM. Allowing his clear dislike for City to cloud his judgement was his first mistake and trying to lock horns with such intelligent fans was his second.

I bet he wishes he had just kept his big mouth shut now, and when his bosses at the bank find out he’s been giving it the Billy Big Bollocks routine and made himself look a right **** in the process, using the HSBC name to try and appear more credible, I’m sure they won’t be too pleased. Especially when they also discover that he’s been doing most of it on their time.

As I said, I applaud anyone who tries to explain FFP to the masses. It's not easy and even the great Swiss Ramble has made mistakes. I've made loads in trying to understand some of the basics, let alone the nuances. I agree that if you make sweeping statements that are allegedly factual then you have to be pretty sure of your ground.

I'd like to think he's learned from this (because I certainly have) so can we stop the bluster and hostility please, as Ric has asked. It really doesn't reflect well on us. I'd rather have Ed respect us than think we're a vindictive and graceless bunch.

A very reasoned and grown up approach indeed, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if his adventures into the world of FFPR were principally driven by a loathing and/or jealously of clubs like City, rather than any particular desire to provide any objective input in this complex area. It’s almost as though he came up with the headline ‘City will fail FFPR’ first and then thought ‘right, now all I have to do is come up with some ‘facts’ to make this appear plausible’

Don’t know this Ed bloke, no desire to make his acquaintance and certainly no axe to grind, power to his elbow, and all that, but I do think you have to question his motivation in all of this, which does explain why at times it might have been a little tough to keep the bluster and hostility to a minimum.
