Having a small argument with a pal about which club is biggest in Manchester. Of course, I know the rags fanbase is mainly based in Asia and that Manchester is OUR CITY - and I'm pretty sure I've seen some kind of graphics or a map to prove it. Can't seem to find it, though...

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? In that case, could you please give me a link...

Depends on what you define as support really, armchairs or actual attenders that people know.

in Gary James' latest book about the history of Manchester Football, the results of that study are published, including the map referred to. Basically, East Manc is blue, so too South Manc, whereas West and North Manc are Rag.

One year a student comes out with a 'study' and states that Manchester is blue.

The next year a student in the same class, does the same 'study' and says that Manchester is red.

It depends on which year it is, and the bias of the author.

It's a flawed argument. The only way to do it scientifically is to base it on season ticket sales. But as the two numbers are different then you'd have to base it on percentages. Then you think of things like is Old Trafford full of season tickets and few casual sales, and is COMS a mixture of the two with a lot of people buying tickets on a match by match basis.

I think the current study says that Manchester is red, and my red mate is chuffing his bits off over it, until I point out there were about 3 studies in recent years saying it was blue.

City - Manchester

Yernited - Trafford.

Argument - over.

Cheltenham - Loads of Armchair reds.... rags and dippers.

But a top crowd of City boys, great supporters branch, and more passionate than any of the above.

No student study needed. Its just fact!
