This self loathing attitude for some regarding England

I used to be patriotic about all national sport but as you get older it means less and less. Only two matches I'd be interested watching involving England, either semi or final of the world cup, anything else I'm not bothered. If we won the WC it would be forgotten next day though!

Seeing City win something comes over anything England for me personally!

During any competition any ENGLAND team are in I wish them well. As I did last night, and every other competition England have been in since I've watched sport. I went mad when we won the Ashes!

I agree that being patriotic doesn't necessarily have anything to do with sport. Living everyday life as an English citizen... what has that got to do with Football or any other sport?

My Mum doesn't follow sport... does that mean she's not patriotic about living in England and/or being English? (Probably should say British but its by force of habbit!)

I think this is down to an opinion, as most things are nowadays.

Some truly sad comments on here about supporting your own country.personally Iv'e supported England as long as iv'e supported City.My club come first and that will never change, but i love seeing England play in major tournaments, had some great memories down the years and in lots of ways, they have taken me on the same roller coaster rides as City have and like City, they have give me great moments of joy and left me feeling like pulling my hair out.

Doesn't matter whether it's England football, the cricket team,or even the rugby,i love my country and don't feel guilty about flying a S.T.George's flag or wearing England colours, when you think of the Dutch with all that orange thing going on,the Brazilian supporters or any other really, they get behind their nation,it's fun and people should be able to enjoy it.

good post scowy, I always though hating the england team was for rugby lovers and bandwaggon jumpers

Don't get me wrong, I love the England cricket team, and winning the Ashes at The Oval in 2005 still stands out for me as a great memory. I was belting out Jerusalem with the best of them. For me it's the xenophobia that seems to follow England around when they play football. Combat 18 in Dublin for instance.

I think a lot of people who have England as their main football interest support unsuccessful clubs, and many more are BNP sympathisers. That sadly taints a lot of good patriotic proper England fans.

Pity theirs a minority that jump on the bandwagon to use the national team for their political beliefs, but lets not forget the official England fan club that shell out thousands of pounds to follow the National team,or the families that go to watch the National side play.

I was at S.T.James park when our Shauny made his international bow and scored,we we're in the Gallowgate end, and the England band we're not far behind us,i took my two little lads who we're only seven years old at the time and they loved it.

been all over watching England, my 1st trip abroad was germany 88, England wer,nt half as popular as they are now, only a few thousand of us , unlike the the real stadium of light in portugal againt france when englands largest ever away following turned up .

i love following England , as do many other blues who i,ve met all over the world, ironically you do not meet many of the top 4 fans on england tours -the team belongs to all englishmen & women
i,m not racist, (all my grand parents where irish), but i,m Proud Englishman

COME ON CITY COME ON ENGLAND

Patirotism isn't just about following the Queen ot supporting the footlball side. Although i do both, it's about supporting you're fellow brethren when the going gets tough, and we don't do it enough. We to quick to pass the Buck. But who clears the shit up at the end of the day. WE DO. IMO.

I've not given a shit about england since Sven and team Beckham turned it into a exclusive club where if you played for the sky 4 or had a "name" you we're in regardless of form.

The same is true of Cappello in some respects.
I wonder if it's the FA that pick the squads rather than the manager.

Patriotism has f - all to do with football unless that's a nice name for invading a foreign town and treating the locals like shit whilst downing local ale and screaming "engerland" at the top of your voice.

I've seen it so many times it shames me to be on the same island.

lighten up... you're still stuck in the 80's. You haven't been to an England away game for a long time I reckon....
