Can someone explain to me why neither of these are off-side leading up to Sturridge's sencond goal?

Initial pass to the winger - Sturridge is miles off.

Then, the pass to Sturridge - ball is played forward and there are NOT 2 opposing players between him and the Newcastle goal line.

Is the second one because the goalscorer is behind the player who passes the ball?

Worse decision was not to send off Glen Johnson. Already on a yellow card he tangled with a Newcastle player and grabbed and held his leg to stop him getting away. Should of been a 2nd yellow and was 2-0 at the time
