Gutted we didn't Chelsea had no buy back, but I think they just tried harder to buy him than we did. He was an absolute bargain though, no idea why there wasn't more interest from all the top teams in the world tbh, he's that good

Agree with you there any time I watched him in the Europa League he was great and he's built for the Premier League. I thought Chelsea would've been smart enough to put a buy back clause as they seem to buy and sell alot young players. We probably thought we could've have got Fernando for free and we probably would've if we weren't interested in Mangala so we couldn't piss off Porto too much.

Probably the case. Shame though, as Matic is probably as good a holding midfielder as there is in world football, is a great age and perfect physically for our league. It's just very surprising that everyone is/was fighting over William Carvalho at a higher price, while overlooking Matic. Annoyingly, he's fucking perfect for a Mourinho side as well

Do you reckon Carvalho will be an eventual star? Could you see him doing a job for us?

Very much so, but he's going to cost an absolute fortune. He has the potential to do just about everything and has been improving rapidly all year. His defensive side is already at a very high level, physically he has it all and he shows glimpses of real talent going forwards as well. His attacking is far from great at the moment, but as the year has progressed he's shown that he has it in him to do everything. If he gets the right move and is developed in the right way then he could be a real world beater. All that being said, I think for what he'd cost, he'll struggle to be good value
