It is derby, 2 English clubs with biggest fan base. That's always derby, no matter of table positions. Same with Liverpool vs Rags.

Juventus vs Inter Milan is called Derbi d'Italia even if they are on opposite sides of table.

The one additional reason though why they like to feature that "derby stuff" when they talk about Arsenal vs United or Liverpool vs United is a dig at City and Chelsea. They want to say "these are the proper derbies, teams with isstry" and not these new sugar daddy clubs..

Arsenal and Liverpool miss times when those matches were title deciders, and United miss times when they were regularly beating those two for titles. They don't like new Chelsea and City competition.

no...no it bloody isn't.

a derby is two teams that either play in the same city or close by to each other.

city v utd - derby
city v stockport - derby
city v macc- derby
city v oldham - derby
city v chelsea - just a big game
ushited v arse - just a big game (and an old rivalry).
chelsea v arsenal - derby.

Yeah, that's your English definition of derby, geographical one, I had some discussions about that before so I understand what you mean.

Nobody share that view outside of England though, Derbi d'Itallia is great example for it.

Well they are English teams

Re: rags v arsenal a derby ?

Yep, but Ferguson and Wenger, and most of their team's players are not English ;)

Not a discussion of importance though.. for me it certainly is not geographical only, for you it is, that's it :)

And as I wrote earlier, there's additional bitter reason why they like to feature derby word when talking about those fixtures. Hope Ferguson didn't think someone would believe him that Liverpool game was most important one last season for them. Yeah, sure..

Re: rags v arsenal a derby ?

I don't think piss can is human let alone Scottish

Ironically, the Cambridge dictionary actually uses the Manchester derby as an example of the word

-- Fri Nov 02, 2012 8:05 pm --

Good day to be a busker tomorrow as Piccadilly will be fuckin hammered.

Bacon says some strange things. He reckons RVP will get a warm reception at the Emirates today. Jesus, they sing about him being a twunt non stop. It is their one and only song.
The only way RVP is getting a warm reception if someone sets him on fire ... and you wouldn't put it past someone.

But anyway, I bet he scores at least one.
