Thoughts on the start to the season? | October thoughts (p12)

We've had a good week and hopefully it gets better from here on but it's still a poor start. 7 points from 15 isn't good enough, we're level with united who we all think are on the verge of sacking yet another manager.
We'll end up way ahead of United. We lost to Spurs as we always do. A draw at a very good Arsenal side is excellent. Beat United easily which we haven't done that often recently..

The blip performance was Brighton.

You'd hope and expect so. United have actually had a harder start than us and everybody is saying they've had a poor start. To be level on points with them means we can't look at it as anything other than a poor start and just have to hope we improve from here on.

Tough call after 5 games but we look way short of title contenders. However, only 5 games gone. We need Foden and Rodri to be at their best to compete.

“Tough start”, wtf ?! PL wise we haven’t had a tough start at all, we’ve played one top team and four mediocre / shite teams. As such 7 points from 15 is piss poor at face value.

Still, with my happy hat on, I prefer to judge it on 3 games with a proper keeper in goal …. 2 wins 1 draw and only one late late goal conceded and two of the games were against sides that are amongst the best in Europe
We have had a derby game, our bogey team, top 3 team, top 8 team, best italian team and one crap team.

I would say that is pretty hard schedule

Absolutely bloody fantastic.
A really tough start to the season.
So much better than last season.
I love being a happy clapper to cheese off the glass half empty numpties.
33 more points and we’re safe……
City, Manchester City, we are the lads who are playing to win,
City,
The boys in blue will never give in.

I hav been critical of us signing Haaland and statiting my preference for someone like Kane or aisak. However if we play to his strengths like we have done more this season then he is levels above the other two.

The same goes for Doku when we play to his strength he can be unplayable.

I am happy with what Pep is doing with the squad. I m thinking might be a better option having Ait Nouri in Midfield as he has good passing ability superior to someone like Nico.

The weak links in the team to me are back up rb, nico and maybe ake. If we can upgrade them we will be right up there for many seasons to come.

There are som really exciting prospects coming through as well in Mfuni, Nypan, Reis, Bah etc

We were never going to come flying out of the blocks.

What I find hugely positive is that we are seeing the tactical versatility and flexibility we needed in order to get results.

Our fitness levels aren't quite there, we have already had a number of injuries too but it's been a very good week and there are positive signs.

Yes we want to be back at the level where we play the tarquins off the park, but that fight and determination was there today and in a month or so we will be so much better.

Was very happy - I said before United I’d take WLD in the next 3 games in any order so to go unbeaten and nearly sneak a three wins is incredible

The biggest plus for me are the green shots of desire, running for one another and battling

I still think this season will be a building one but we are on the right track

There is clearly a problem with our midfield controlling games. This week has shown that with Khusanov at RB and Gvardiol back we can defend. However, we are lacking the ability to pass accurately in the midfield which is limiting our ability. The hope is that Haaland, Foden, and Doku have found form.

Well let's see ..... 9th position in the table, and eight points, or three wins behind the undefeated league leaders already ..... it's far from being ideal, that's for sure, but we're only five games in, so we could yet turn things around.

Rags mid table (at best) at home - not hard
Spurs ditto
Brighton mid table away - tricky
Wolves away - not hard
Arsenal away - very difficult

So overall not a tough start in the PL

Napoli are a top class team and that was a very good win
