Tickets sold vs attendance

Re: Attendance figures.

ESPN announced it as just short of 47,000 then defended the empty seats saying that it was a sell out and the last ticket was sold earlier in the week.

So if it is based on tickets sold then it should have been announced as 47,xxx. However as announced in the stadium the attendance was 46,xxx then it must be based on attendance on the night. Unless of course the capacity was reduced for this game??

didnt look that way on the tv, their were a lot of empty seats everywhere :) especially in the east stand when they showed it , probably about 38,000 there I would say ( waiting to be beaten down )
38000? So you think 1 in every 5 seats was empty? More like 45000.
i agree, there was no way more than 4000 empty seats, quite a few in the family stand but other than the last 15 mins everywhere else was fairly full...great turn out given the conditions.

Re: Attendance figures.

That clip match of the day showed of the kid trying to catch the snow in his mouth was actually in about the 80th minute when there were a few empty seats due to people leaving early. Not sure why motd chose to show that after 2 mins!

Credit to Fulham fans; they're not the best supported club and their fans are a decent bunch. As others have pointed out in making their excuses, it was on telly and if that's good enough for fans of a club who were likely to win not to go then it's more than good enough for them - who were likely to lose.

Conversely, on the same thread we have a City fan who couldn't make it due to the snow in Mossley. It snows in Mossley in June! But I think that if I'd given myself the monicker of Thenumber1blue, I think I'd be setting about trying to prove it, by crawling to the ground on all fours whilst pushing a pea with the end of my nose, or perhaps - more realistically - making that 20 minute train journey to Victoria...

To be fair to them, they had the best fans who have been to our ground this season. There were only twenty or so of them but they didn't stop singing all game (young lads down the front, some had their tops off thinking they were supporting Lech Fulham!). Twenty lads outsung, what I'd say to be, about 44000 City fans - fair play to em!

Re: Attendance figures.

Wasn't a ridiculous amount of empty seats like some suggest I reckon he actual attendance was around 43000. The weather being the only reason for the fall in attendance.

Re: Attendance figures.

Watching the match again..THERE IS NO WAY ON THIS GREEN AND BLUE AND WHITE EARTH that there were anywhere near 47 or even 46k. Again, if some of you would have read the original post properly, you would see that this is nothing to do with complaining about attendances. I live 4000 miles away, trust me, if I could I would be there week in week out as a season ticketer. I understand that there are times when cars break down, the weather is so bad (a la today) that people simply cannot and do not want to attend a sports even or anything else outside and so on and so forth. Anyway, like I was saying there is no chance we were even close to a sellout attendance (bums in seats that is, not tickets sold). I am watching the match again now, and from kickoff there are loads of empty seats. Can't clearly see how many vacant seats there are/were in the upper tiers, but by the looks of it, I would guess that there is somewhere between 42-44k in the ground at best. The person who asked the question along the lines of 'so you are saying there was 1 vacant seat in every 5?', well my answer would be close enough, but more like 1 in 7 or 8.

Would love to know the EXACT number of people in the stands today at kickoff.

Don't give a shit what others think or say about our club or the '20,000 empty city is yours' song, and all that other bollocks...i'll watch if it's an empty stadium and be just as happy! Again, how the word sellout can be used to describe today's match is literally barmy and fooling nobody...

Those missing were missing for some reason, whatever it was, and who cares?

Whoever is right and whatever the attendance was today, we are still a fantastically supported club, and have been forever, and we will only continue to have fantastic support as we grow and get more successful. We played some great football at times today, so those of you who did go, despite the cold weather you probably had a great day.

Re: Attendance figures.

There's been empty seats at every game this season, I'm pretty sure. Yet we have been told we've sold out every game. Not sure how it works, whether we've got seasoncard holders who are picking which games they come to or what.

Not sure what the explanation is but there's been countless times this season when the game has been announced as sold out before kick off and it's not been full. Surely we couldn't lie that it was sold out and deny people the chance to buy tickets in order to claim it's full?

It's a bit of a mystery.
