Tik Tok looting event Oxford street. Coming to a town near you?

I doubt that your Gorton childhood was any different to my Levenshulme childhood and we never stooped to the levels of today's scumbags.
I grew up in Abbey Hey, Gorton in the 1950's and 60's, most people (not all) were "salt of the earth" types, they didn't have a lot of money but respected others, and that's not just a case of looking back with rose coloured spectacles.

Not one person helping the copper, there's a lot wrong with that picture.

People would rather take a picture.

I've worked central London for over 20 years and often have drinks/meals out, never once felt a undertone where i could be threatened or seen any serious crime.

parts of London, especially East and South East do have what you mention.
Apart from the very fact this thread exists?! And I was Newham.

Same period for me in Levenshulme mate. Exactly the same story. People in our immediate area all knew each other, mostly respected each other's privacy, and were always ready to lend a hand when you needed it.
As kids, we were always round each other's houses for snacks (jam butties), tea or waiting for mums and dads to get home from work. We used to run errands for the old dears without the thought of recompense.
If you nicked something from our local shop, you could be sure you'd be found out and get a belt off your dad. Times were so much better then.
