I’m a City fan almost entirely because of the songs. I was taken to Highbury by my father in law and despite losing, from that day forward I’ve never looked back.
The main reason was the singing. I know away games are always better for that, but maybe we can find a better balance and turn our home games around?
In order to get more of the crowd going they’d need to be melodic, he lyrics simple and relevant.
So to start off some ideas I’ve taken the Elbow song Magnificent. I think it fits the needs mentioned and is well known enough, with a visceral emotive feel to it, it might catch on? Play with the lyrics and let’s give it a go!
“This is where
This is where the best team play
Where all the greatest players meet
With their feet stood on the grass
And this is where
The fans come to fill their seats
Standing with their coats and scarves
Ready for the game ahead
Then the ref blows his whistle and it starts
And there they stand
De Bruyne, Silva, Sane and Sterling
The world it doesn’t even know
How good this team, it can be
And City are magnificent
We know
That City are magnificent”
Or maybe just keep the end bit :)
