Time to get real!

Lest we forget though Robinho would of gone anywhere just to get out of Madrid.

WTF does that matter, he ended up here! and for whatever reason others will follow! who gives a shit about why?

I am not saying we won't ever attract players like this but some people really need to get rid of their illusions of grandeur. We won't be signing any of those players until we created a base team that can consistently gets a top 6 spot.

No he wouldn't

As for him being a special case because he wanetd out of Madrid, well Villa could be a special case cos he wants to save his club for financial meltdown, Kaka could be a special case cos he wants a new challenge and to play for a club with MASSSIVE ambition and the finances to get there. There could be lots of 'special cases' out there

Agreed. As much as I'd like to see us sign a superstar or 2 we need to get our house in order first by concentrating on the areas which are causing us problems at the moment. Then, if we put a run together and end up with a European place next season, then go for the big guns in the summer to help us fight for a Champions League spot. Things just don't happen over night, not even at Chelsea. They were already playing in Europe year in year out and had established a name for themselves on the pitch before Roman took over.

I would not put my money on that, The Club is not just rich it has a vision and the finance to put it in to action

YES. He would.

It has been no secret. He WANTED to go to Chelsea and when he realised they were looking less and less likely to tie the deal up along came City to save him.... "that'll do".

No he wouldn't. If Blackburn or West Brom would have made an offer for him, would he have gone there? Or would he have sat it out at Madrid for a bit?

And you know this because...... ?

Last time i checked, MH was the manager of man city, and he selects who he wants to buy...

imagine possible conversation in November

Sheik Mansour says "this is a list of what we think are the worlds best player for each position on the pitch" as he hands over a piece of paper "what do you think?"

Mark takes the piece of paper and spend several minutes looking at the paper. Then he picks up a pen and carefully draws a line through two of the names and add two different names. He then passes the paper back saying "I've replaced two players which I think are passed there best"

Sheik Mansour then says "right you can have 4 of them, which ones do you want"

Now imagine this :

man city bid 60m for buffon.... he doesnt want to come to city
man city bid 80m for kaka.... he wants CL football next season
man city bid 70m for Villa.... he looks at the PL table and laughs
man city bid 60m for eto'o... he thinks about leaving a CL spot for a dog fight, then changes his mind

See how it really works ? Yes money is a great tool to have, but some players can simply NOT be bought. And it is even harder to buy said players when just above relegation zone, it kinda makes the "we are going places" argument void ya know.

And as pointed out, Robinho WAS a special case as he just wanted out of Real Madrid at any cost.

100% spot on i thought this tread was called time to get real, real is that we need to get our shit together before we buy the world. Granted we got all the money in the world but thats all we can offer.

If Blackburn or WBA had offered the same money then I think so yes.

I don't. The difference between us and them is that even if they could afford Robs wages they could afford little more, we can afford LOTS more and players know this. Our possibilities are pretty much limitless and that's the difference. We might not be in the champs league now but it's only a matter of time if we keep throwing money at it.

I don't know why people are writing off our chances off so much. ADUG are still a relatively unkown quantity. They only had one day to do business this year and they put in ridiculous bids for 6 top players, securing a world class superstar in Rob. People keep mentioning Abramovich but these guys operate on a much bigger scale than him, do not underestimate them. Yes there is a chance that we might just get the likes of RSC and Diarra in come Jan (which would be fine), but it's impossible to write anything else off right now cos we don't know what they are capabale of.
