Time To Name The East Stand The Trautmann Stand Now.........

When Bert Trautmann arrived at Manchester City in 1949, 20,000 protested against his signing. By the time he left, he was lauded as the bravest man in British sport

I fully support this idea, but I would also like to see a non football hero honoured in the same way. Alf Morris, Manchester's greatest son. As important in the fight for equal rights for all as Emily Pankhurst, Mohandas Gandhi or Martin Luther King.

Please City, do this now, in the year the Paralympics come to Britain it would be a fitting way to honour a great man.

I do agree and support the trautmann stand idea but what if, like we had the key 103 stand, a big time company wanted to sponsor it. Say the Nike stand for example... obviously slim to none chance of it happening but would The revenue and money make the club think otherwise?

Superb.

-- Mon Aug 27, 2012 8:32 pm --

Bert's stand. Nope, I see no reason how that can be mocked.

My old deceased Grandad who first saw City at Hyde Road would im sure love that there was a stand named after Bert.

He hated Germans my grandad, said the only good un was a dead one, but he was a goalie in his youth and loved Bert witth such a passion.

He told me stories about Bert and his broken neck, he was there with my nanna, he was also there in 33/34 and loed big Swifty butn for him Bert was better.

I can think of no greater tribute to a real proper legend than name a stand after him. Great idea OP i support it.

Great idea....I saw Bert in action many times in the early sixties....top man, even went to his testimonial in '64.

Failing that,... the Big George Heslop stand has a nice ring to it..........:)

yeah, i was at the testimonial too, my one & only time in the Platt Lane, with my mum & my sister as my dad was on crowd control (& escorted Bert off the pitch at FT).

Its very difficult from the perspective of 60+ years to understand what a difference Bert made to improving Anglo Gerry relations at the time he played for us, when they were, err, not at their best. In short, crikey he's just like us really, but the message that would be sent by naming the stand is just as important today.

where do I sign?

Excellent post.... we need to contact the club if this gathers momentum

How do we start a campaign for 'The Bert Trautmann Stand'?
I wouldn't know where to start TBH , but im sure we'd be mowed out with signatures on match day ,( apart from the odd knob head that is ) ; (

What's going to happen for the new crop of players which probably bring the most succesful era to City and actually play in the new stadium.
Vinny just signed a 6 year deal etc etc
