time wasting

is it really starting to piss anyone else off, half a minute for every keeper kickout, taking it to the far edge of the 6yard box, players failing to control the ball from the ball boy etc. driving me mad!

This is perhaps the most annoying aspect of the modern game. Yer at The Etihad, there's a goal kick after two minutes for the away shysters, and fifteen minutes later Crappenberg waves play on, or Dowd taps his watch, and after twenty Atkinson has deducted the exact amount of time from the time added on. Book 'em! Turn the goal kick into a corner! They won't waste time then. It's about time we had Schwarzer or Sorensen sent off for two yellow time wasting cards.

Remember last seasons game between Chelsea and United when Chelsea was up 2-1 and Drogba time wasted at the corner flag in 5-10 minutes.

It's different if the ball is in play; that's fair enough, IMHO.

It's when teams take so long with goal-kicks and throw-ins that really gets on my tits!

Drogba did that to you, this season.

Its just an annoying part of the game. You can't expect a team to be in a hurry to get the ball moving while hanging onto a precarious result with 5 minutes to go.

I'd prefer an independent time keeper who stops the clock when the ball is dead, make it 40 mins each-way with the ball in play. At present we're lucky to get 70 mins actual action in a match.

Remember what it was like before there were several balls on the touchline? If the crowd felt like it, it sometimes took 5 minutes to get the ball back in play.
My Dad told me of a game we played Port Vale away in the FA Cup once and we took a shit load of fans. Everytime the ball went out of play the city fans kept hold of it and never threw it back. In the end Vale ran out of balls in the dug out and someone had to go and fetch some from the changing rooms somewhere. This took a few minutes. Then as a new ball came out the City fans threw all the balls back onto the pitch. There were about eight balls in play, and that took about a minute to get rid of.

Hate it, my take on this is two fold.

1, watch when a teams goalie has the ball or an offside being taken, one of their players "chat" to the ref, distracting him from the antics.

2, we should be already at the ref from the first minute of the game pointing out the time wasting especially from a goalie, an early booking will stop it dead. We should badger the ref at every opportunity .

Whats worse for me is the blatant time wasting that is not added on at the end.
When we lost to that goal by Owen, 7 mins into 4 minutes of injury time, the football world creamed itself with trying to explain the rules, 30 secs per sub, per goals, time wasting etc but i find when we play and teams waste time against us and use all subs etc we rarely get over 3 mins added on.
