Tino Livramento

Exactly this. And it’s wildly frustrating because they’ll be spinning their wheels for months only to have two weeks left and find some drab alternate. Really effective use of time and resources.
I can't agree with this. We wouldn't have him top of our list if we felt there was no chance of getting him. There must have been some indication of interest from club or player/agent to make it worth bothering (that's if there is even any truth in the rumour).

It was also indicated that we have alternatives in place should any deal not work out. Seems a sensible approach to me.

If he knows he will play a lot at city why would he rather stay there?
They've just won a trophy and will qualify for the Champions League this weekend. As things currently stand, Newcastle are in a better position than us to progress further. Why would he jump ship now?

Don't see why he would have any reason to leave.

Play for Pep, consistent challengers on all fronts (usually anyway!), a place in the team for him, good wages, good city to live in.

Newcastle have a lot of that and probably will become consistent challengers down the line, players have short careers though and it depends how patient he wants to be.

We've been shite and are on track to finish above them, not unreasonable to think we sign 3 or 4 players, get Rodri back and are right back challenging again.

Our revenues are so much higher than Newcastle, they'd need to sell to sign 3 or 4 players.

This is the kind of quality we need to target. Might be the best young RB we could sign today. Newcastle might have some interest in Grealish, McAtee, Stones or even Kalvin as a rotation player?

Why would Newcastle sell with champions league football?
It's hard to keep a player if they want to leave. I'm just not expecting him to push all that hard to leave. We are an enticing opportunity, but Newcastle isn't a bad place to be.

A player we should definitely be going all out for. Our best chance is if Newcastle don’t get Champions League football.

Nice to know that when you have a source, and they tell you of our interest months ago, it’s comes to fruition like this

Give em all 5 and take back Livramento plus 25 million :)
