Title Race 2020/21

If we start scoring again we have a chance because of our defence and squad depth. Else Liverpool is probably going to win it :( . I think we will make top 4 comfortably

The ongoing struggle to score goals at this moment would suggest no title.

If we start scoring goals we will be in contention.

Imo it is a simple answer:

Score goal = win silverware.

On a positive note; It is only December and we have time to turn it around and the defence has been fantastic. Well done all involved in purchasing Dias.
Even a stopped clock tells the correct time twice a day.

If we had prime Aguero I think we would win it but I just don't see us scoring enough goals to win enough games so unfortunately it will be Liverpool.

It'll end up with us, rags & dips the latter 2 helped by various means while we run uphill.

Just got to hope the good guys win in the end.

Dippers look likeliest at the moment but reckon they will drop points here and there as the season goes. If we can take advantage if/when it happens, (which we honestly didn't so far) we have a fair shout.

Table would have looked relatively decent if we hadn’t slipped up against West Brom. That game could cost us.

I think our title credentials will come down to the next few set of fixtures. If we don’t pick up 4-6 points against Everton and Chelsea then we’re probably 10 points behind and it becomes difficult as we’ve shown no consistent form since the end of 18/19 season. Liverpool will get more confident and probably walk it.

If you look at the fixture list though, if can remain within 5 points after January we then have a relatively favourable set of games until we go to Anfield.

Form over the last 10 games:

Man U 23 pts
Liverpool 22 pts
Spurs 21 pts
City 20 pts
Chelsea 20 pts *

*Chelsea play tonight and may have 21 pts, if they win vs Wham.

Given that we have played in 5 from those 10 games without fit strikers, we are not doing that bad. Drawing with WBA was bad, the other results were decent.

Unlike Manure and Liverpool, we are not in top form though. Chances are we will hit form at some point while Manure and Liverpool may experience fatigue. They seem to run more and rotate less.

Our aim should be to be within 3-5 pts off the top come March. Think we have more squad depth than the rivals and may be fresher than them in the last months of the campaign.

Your points tallies are not quite right - we've got 19pts in the last 10 but still enough for 3rd on form.

Last 10 takes us back to just after the first international break (directly after Leicester and Leeds) when Pep changed to "control, control" mode. Also it eliminates the 1-6, 2-5 and 2-7 scores with Utd, us and Liverpool.

Here's the table. We are clearly light on goals scored - based on xG we should have scored 5 more and LIverpool 5 less.

Goals against/xGA is simply superb and very similar to the 2018/19 14 game run-in when we only conceded 4 goals.

Based on performance overall as reflected by xG/xGA we should be top of the league based on xPoints.

I'm still v confident we will win in it if we, as a minimum, raise our conversion rate on big chances and KDB bags some again from outside of the box.

Biggest threat is obviously Liverpool and they potentially have a big advantage with fixtures if they opt out of the FA Cup. They've got a full 8 day break now, no 2 games in 48 hours at the weekend AND will potentially play 2 games less than us in January if they deliberately get knocked of the FA Cup. Effectively they have 2 mini-winter breaks.
