Title Race 2020/21

Both Man Utd and Leicester have to play 7 sides in the top 10 in their remaining fixtures and Chelsea 8.

They won't win all of the other games they have to play as last nights result against Southampton proved to be the case.

When you take and objective look at the sides from 2-10 presently its a foregone conclusion none of them will reach 80 points this season more likely mid seventies at the very best.

At this stage I am prepared to give the side finishing second this season 78 points at the very best but we all know it is far more likely to be less than that.

Chelsea have to go 11-2-0 to finish on 78 points which is not going to happen

Both Leicester and Man Utd have to go 10-2-2 to finish on 78 points which again given their schedules is highly unlikely to occur.

Here's the current standings.

We were 8 points behind Liverpool here and now we're 19 points ahead of them.

That's a 27 point swing in the space of 12 games.

Most of us thought we would gradually climb the table after an uncharacteristically poor start but I don't think many of us predicted a turnaround of such epic proportions.

is everybody else shocked in liverpool defence of the title ?

are other teams doing back to back titles just about impossible because of manchester city
because of the premier league champions league and cups games teams need to have quality in depth or they have to pick the cups and europe or the title

only manchester city can go on all fronts for a season then need a bit of lucky with injuries
when city did the 100 points and 98 points seasons back to back titles that was a one off. nobody can do that again in the premier league and that record will be in the record books for a long time

liverpool have shown just how hard it is defending the title. unless you have quality squad depth you are not doing back to back titles ? i see city winning 1 in 2 titles in the next 10 years and even could do another back to back if liverpool and the others don't invest proper

Just looking at the table after 27 games from last season; we’re actually only 8 points better off, with the same GD, than we were last season.

And we’d still be top this season with 57 points.
We were never that bad last season. We frequently won games and played great, it was just once every 3 or 4 games or so we'd lose due to dodgy defending and/or comically bad finishing. It was only because we fell from the heights of 198 points over two seasons with Liverpool having a freakish run of results (79 points from 81 as you've posted) that made it all look worse.

More interestingly we're on the same points total as 18/19, and that's with us having a freakishly slow start.
