I saw an episode of this the other night, and for me it raised a morally ambiguous question or two. There was a young woman of ninteeen posing as a girl of thirteen or fourteen, and it made me wonder about common perceptions.

Such as, I doubt anyone would bat an eyelid if a 15-year old girl was going out with a 16-year old boy, providing they were physically similar re. height and looks etc, and I doubt he'd become a social pariah if it were revealed they were sleeping together. In fact, someone at college recently had the trauma of having to oversee her 16-year old son and his 15-year old girlfriend have a termination of their child. No prosecution occurred.

But what about the other side of the coin - that 19-year old in the programme who looked no older than fifteen, for example. Now, as a 19-year old she is well within her rights to date whoever she pleases, but if she was seeing a big, hulking twenty-something, I'd be somewhat wary of his motives for seeing someone so young looking.

Why his motives? What if the girl in your scenario is relentless in pursuit of him? Doen't that, then, turn your point on its head?

I don't think it would, Guv would still be questioning his motives - he never saw how they got together.

And he can say "No", no matter how relentless.

When I worked the door, some years back, I met a girl who was 19, but looked 15! I never dated her, but she worked behind the bar and was constantly asked for ID when she went clubbing. She chose to date guys in their late 20's and had to convince them pretty hard that she was of age! She was a girl of good personality (and top pair of mama jamas, mind!) and I could see why she'd be a top date.

Conversely, years later, I got into a situation with a girl who looked 19, was really 15! She had the big woman shape and everything! Luckily, I was informed of her age before anything happened!

So, it DOES matter as to who's persuing whom.

I can speak for myself thanks.

Good point, Bigga. But I was talking of perceptions, and anyway, if I were a big, hulking 20-something (to use my own phrase), I'd be embarrassed to be seen with a girl who was five foot nothing and looked so young.

But, isn't that the problem, Guv? You can only speak relevant of your experiences, in life, so far. Right? How do you know what tomorrow'll bring? So long as YOU know the truth, why does it what anyone else thinks?

In 20 years, you can meet someone 20 years your junior and who is right for you in every way. You can feel that this person is the ONE. You've waited for her your whole life. You could be married, have kids, not to mention your current age(in 20 years, remember) and feel it's the one time you'll be happy.

Whose perceptions do you care about, then...?

Hmmm, I'm not sure that meeting someone of 46 when I'm 66 would be much of a catch, to be honest ;@)

Well, I'd have to include my own perceptions in there. It wouldn't matter how old the woman was, but if she looked 13 I would NOT be interested, full stop. I think that's what my original point boils down to.

Unfortunately that indded is true, another 20 of the worldest most pointless threads perhaps?... don't flatter yourself, i wasn't trying to speak on your behalf... just debating a point with Bigga, i understand where he's coming from now.
