Today's music

Every generation ever moans about the state of 'today's music'. The majority of music unleashed on the public is the musical equivalent of a horse crispy lasagne or something, it's not a representation of anything at all.

There are as many brilliant bands around now as there has ever been, you just need to look for them or let them find you, the way the internet works nowadays I've been turned onto quite a few newish bands through 'you might like' suggestions on websites etc.

Radio 1, TV in general is like a fucking hospital for the mentally wounded, you won't find good music there so get diggning. Or don't. Dig?

The Enemy in early 2007 contributed to bringing guitar music back along with Arctic Monkeys after The Libertines packed in.

Working class lads, writing about everyday life. Which they still do now aswell, they brought back it back and inspired alot of groups now.

Tom himself has set up a label and company for unsigned bands, he goes around the UK watching the best bands from the demo's he get's sent. He then puts them in the studio and get's them out there and known amongst the people.

Alot of people hate them cause apparently they try to impersonate other bands, who doesn't though? Doesn't take away how good the music is what they write.

I agree with you, I think todays music is as bland as a cup of tea. Maybe it's an age thing, but I remember growing up in the 60's and 70's, and every few years, a new genre of music would develop. It was new and exciting. We hadn't heard music like it before, and neither had we seen the clothes that went with it.

I'm sure that todays teenagers find the bands they listen to just as exciting as we did back in the day, but the reality is we have seen it all before, and when we saw it, it was new.

I don't know if we will ever have a period of music as varied or as interesting as we did in the 60's and 70's, but I have never heard anything since then to suggest a new revolution is on it's way.
 
There are some absolutely fantastic bands around at the moment producing some exceptional albums and EP's.

At the moment I'm loving:
Bastille, The 1975 (from manchester), Swiss lips (also manchester), Theme Park, HAIM, Foals, Black keys, Frightened Rabbit, Of monsters and men, Everything Everything, Suede.... To name a few.
The new courteeners album which is absolutely brilliant.
Embrace are currently putting the final touches to their new album for quite a few years.

Bob got it spot on in an earlier post, there's so much shit in the charts nowadays, if you dig under that, there are one absolutely amazing bands!
 
Depends where you look, if you still want angry men complaining about stuff then its easy to find...

Ginger Wildheart got a bit of publicity last year with his pledge campaign, was on the verge of packing it in but then appealled to fans to put up the money for a new album...and raised over £250k before anyone had heard anything. So he had the cash to release a triple album and give 10% of the funds to charity. Railing against the record companies and X Factor is all well and good, but it just means real bands have to try harder.

No they didn't.

Guitar music has never needed bringing back and if it did we'd all find a better band than a shit Jam tribute act from the Midlands.

The first band to bring guitar music back into a popular culture that was dominated by Dance music were Oasis with 'Definitley Maybe'
 
Good music is still out there, you just have to wade through the mounds and mounds of shite
 
the problem is its too easy to make music these days, there are too many labels and organisations that can produce it, meaning any old twat and his dog can make a single.

as a result, these are waves of meaningless, uninteresting and unoriginal artists coming along and producing generic drivel just for a quick buck.

There is quality modern music wherever you look. Some of the older generation are just scratching the surface and using that as a sample to judge the situation from.

I saw someone slate British rappers in this thread. Listen to Ill Manors by Plan B, that's as strong a protest message as you will hear these days.
