Holding ground, tussling and backing in aren't actually fouls, it's a full contact sport. I don't actually think there's much wrong with any of that sort of play. At last someone has remembered what the game is supposed to be about. All this nonsense about "there was contact and he was entitled to go down" A foul is a deliberate act and not just a coming together of players. The only good thing to come out of the move to an anodyne form of the game is the absolute outlawing of the tackle from behind that takes the man and then the ball.
Sergio is the perfect example of the "stay on your feet at all costs" that I wistfully long for.
