Today's shooting in America thread

People OUTSIDE THE USA need to stop screaming into the abyss of the Internet and realize this is a uniquely American issue because of 2A, the history behind guns in the country, the size of the country and how much rural land there is. While we are at it, learn what a semi automatic firearm and an “assault rifle” are and are not, and just how hard it is to write Constitutional language that restricts them.

There are DEFINITELY things that can be done, but until the make up of Congress changes dramatically, and 2/3 of the Governors (Chief Executives of each individual state) are ready, nothing about 2A changes.

Don’t forget, almost HALF of the politicians in Washington belong to the party that supports Trump and many of them don’t believe Biden is the duly-elected President!

I and others will make whatever comments we want as it’s a crazy situation where someone sees their ex wife at their kid’s football match and then kills them both as they lost their temper and they’re already armed. The rest of the world thinks it’s fucking stupid. You live there and think it’s fine because /history. Super. If such opinions offend you then don’t click on the thread because it’s never going to be a new post that you agree with.

That does not mean we actually believe that any Govt will ever do anything about the 2A. We know they won’t. But it doesn’t mean it’s any less batshit crazy.

Another knee jerk reaction to a post explaining how rabid exhortations from afar about a seemingly insurmountable problem seem like a big waste of time.

But, if you think putting words in my mouth, telling me what I think, and getting verklempt about every shooting…or anyone that tries to give even the most minor of reasons why this might be…is going to not only make you feel better, but put me in my place, then you’re in the right place.

Out here in the real world it looks a little like screaming into the abyss!

Well I managed 9 years there and do you know what? There wasn’t a single shooting.

There wasn’t a single shooting as none of the 3m residents have guns, which leads me to believe that guns really are the main driver of shootings.

What is funny is how you think you live in the “real world” and that anyone commenting on the clusterfuck that is the USA in 2021 is not part of that “real world”. Although having said that, you never take issue with me when I comment about American politics because we take a broadly similar view, but you don’t like it when I comment on your country’s stupid gun laws/3rd world gun death rates.

Has nothing to do with the embarrassing, shocking, ridiculous, outrageous gun death rate in the USA and everything to do with the knowledge you have that it’s not going to change any time soon!

It’s simply banging your head against the same wall, for the same reason, every day…with a dose of moral superiority, from afar, and laughing from behind your hand and pointing while saying, “Look at those dumbfucks!”

You’re smart enough to know there are reasons for 2A, and reasons it is so difficult to get one’s head, let alone one’s arms, around the issue.

For the most part, at least in most urban areas, it is gangbangers killing each other. However, a DEA friend I was with last weekend said the problem is getting much worse.

While a gun owner, with a concealed carry permit, I am as outraged as anyone here could possibly be, perhaps more, at the number of gun deaths in the USA. However, I try hard not to oversimplify or dumb down the issue, either.

I’m probably a stronger advocate for law and order than most on here. However, if that was all that was needed to effect positive change, it would have happened years ago.

There are no simple answers, nor do the repeated exhortations of moral superiority and intelligence on such issues help create complex ones.

In short, it’s boring.

There’s a problem. What’s the solution? If your answer is take away all the guns, then you are only fooling yourself, not me.

I’ll bet that dad that shot his ex and her boyfriend before turning the gun on himself was also into “law and order” seeing as he legally held and carried a firearm. The issue was that he temporarily had a breakdown and lost his temper.

That’s why it’s so fucking stupid to have concealed carry laws where everyone is armed. Humans have not evolved over the past 2m years with the necessary emotional responses to deal with emotional trauma allied to the ability to kill others with the press of an index finger.

If I get in a slanging match with an ex and her new squeeze, we call each other cûnts, someone takes a swing at the other and 99/100 it ends without serious injury with people jumping in and telling us to grow up (although there’s the 1/1000 where one punch kills which is always worth remembering).

What you’re saying is because of an amendment (how many amendments have there been by the way?) That happened two centuries ago, the rest of the world shouldn’t look at America and shake its head because you guys are special and you don’t like it when others do comment from a vantage of moral superiority. And yeah, I do often think “look at those dumb fucks”, especially when seeing the queues to Trump rallies, just as you do.

Let them keep their guns. After all it is their right to own one. How about doing away with the bullets? Nothing in the constitution that says we have the right to buy bullets lol
