Today's shooting in America thread

Wait... what?

Which far right group in America is doing that?

Totally the wrong end of the stick mate - I never said the US far right was doing anything - I was pointing out that to judge all the UK based on our far right element against the US and its shootings it would only be a fair judgement if the UK far right were doing shootings - think you are a bit twitchy and defensive at the moment - keep your finger off the trigger eh?

No it wouldn’t, because the the far right in America aren’t shooting anyone.

I’m not twitchy, I’m just confused as to what you really think is happening now in the US.

So the prick who posed with Nazi flags and shot those black people in that church wasn’t rightwing/Nazi?

If you look at the figures for attacks it’s mostly all right wing Nazi cunts. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

Mostly men...mostly pissed off at something. Lost job, expelled from school, chucked by girlfriend, hate Mum and Dad

Weren't bought a chopper aged 12!!!!.............I'll never fucking forget that shit

Violence and the far right go hand in hand. American right loses its shit over Antifa yet the girl killed is at the hands of a far right supporter. Militias, obsession with guns, the whining victimhood its all there but to judge who is the biggest danger then just count the bodies.

On a wider point if militias in the US were predominantly black males and mass shootings were done predominantly by black males what do you imagine the US response would be to militias and gun control? Think it would be the same as it is now?

Good points well made.

I’ve seen a lot of outrage posted by Americans in comments on social media etc. But what I don’t understand is why they can’t organise a massive protest to curb gun laws - anti gun march would attract thousands and thousands surely.

Be sitting targets then though, like shooting fish in a barrel, remember the shooting in Vegas.

We’re talking collectively, far right groups aren’t going around shooting people on mass in an organised manner are they?

It’s always people acting alone with a history of mental health or drug issues.

“Look it up” fuck me.

They do happen from time to time but the fact of the matter is that as long as the Republican party is wholly owned by the gun lobby and the NRA there will be no significant change. Huge majorities in this country support sensible gun legislation (and I do mean sensible... I'm talking on the level of "should verifiably mentally ill persons own guns" or "should your inclusion on a terrorism watch list preclude you from buying a gun"), and there is absolutely no prospect of getting anything done, even on a very basic level, prior to Republican majorities being voted out of Congress this fall.

In retrospect the Sandy Hook shooting was the tipping point, if the murder of 20 five and six year old children couldn't move/shame the right into accepting gun control, people pretty much have accepted that nothing will until they're no longer in control. It's an absolute scandal and terribly disheartening but unfortunately it's the truth.
