Today's shooting in America thread

You only have to look at the 130lb old man to know that if he had a knife and not a gun he'd have still killed 10 people.

Another one, 7 dead and the police saying 'disgruntled worker' rather than any kind of retaliation.

Not sure how America fixes this. Heavier laws on gun sales and ownership could cause a civil war based on some of the attitudes I've seen in some areas, but surely Biden has a duty to the American people and I think on the back of a tragedy is the only way it will happen.

With a population of 330m+ I suspect most don’t care.

That's 39 mass shootings in the States...since the start of this year.

Just the three weeks in, then?

That's a bonkers stat for a so called civilised society and a country that see's it self as world leader in being the shining example of how we should all lives.

It’s not just about gun control; it is about a social attitude that requires you to avenge yourself when slighted. How many of these are about work related disgruntlement?

Work related disgruntlement, road rage, domestic argument, neighbourly dispute, angry & hormonal teenagers...

There is an endless list of reasons people get shot that all go away with proper gun control.

To make them all go away would need much stricter gun control than anyone is suggesting or is feasible, so social attitudes will always be important.

Good luck with that...

It's ingrained in society. Some kids are brainwashed on 2A from an early age, and are stripped of all reasoning skills when it comes to discussion on the subject, and they ALWAYS take the second half of of the wording of the amendment in isolation, whilst completely IGNORING the 'well regulated militia' statement.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

2a was written in 1791. At that point the US army was only a few years old but a growing power. It was not evenly distributed and was controlled by Washington. The 2a was clearly intended to allow individual states to form their own local military force in the event the federal government went rogue but also the fight with the British was rumbling on. It was basically a state level security policy relevant to the insecurity of that pre civil war era.
