Tokyo

Been to Tokyo many times. Absolutely fabulous place. Do the obvious tourist things like the tea ceremony (it actually is very good). Take a cruise on the river Sumida. An early morning visit to the fish market is amazing. Electric City. With a 15yo steer clear of Rappongi!
You’ll love it. Guaranteed

Go to Akihabara at night, lights are amazing. Not sure if he's in to anime but a lot of anime shops around there.

Not sure if sumo season is on when you go but worth looking in to watching a match, think yoy can watch them train as well or get a tour.

Edo museum is superb, this kind Japanese elderly man gave me a tour which was superb.

Golden Gai in Shinjuku is lively. A lot of tiny bars which is a good vibe.

Miraikan science museum is interesting but wouldn't very a priority for me.

Have a look at getting a JR pass if you want to visit other places, Kyoto, Osama etc.

Been there a handful of times - amazing city. Some great advice in this thread (apart from the shitting bar, unless that’s your cup of tea). Only thing I’d add, is don’t be afraid to try anonymous-looking bars and restaurants hidden away in basements, or up a few flights of stairs, they’re often the best.

I’ve been all over the world and Tokyo is my favourite place I’ve been to. I can never find the write words to describe the place, it’s just completely different to anywhere else I’ve been.

I’ve been wanting to go to Seoul for years but still haven’t had chance. Korean BBQ’s take some beating.
Don't get me started.
Amazing place, like no other City on Earth ! Clean, polite and very low crime.
You just use the underground to get to different parts, each is brilliant. I liked Odiaba a city of the future, go there on the monorail.
Shinjuku is fabulous at night. But other area's have old temples, street food whatever you want really.
For me the greatest City in the world.

Akihabara at night

Asakusa has ancient temples and lovely street food, plus the river

Oeno has beautiful parks and walks

Me in Oeno in my happy place

I went there with my mate while travelling Asia. We spent most of the time walking around getting pissed with the japs. They love a piss up!

Loved the golden gai and the karaoke bar at the end of the street to make a tit out yourself after a few beers.

Asakusa is great - visiting some of the great temples and just watching is a must. The one in the park is pretty great (Meiji?). We stayed up there, and caught the river boat down to the park.

If you're braving the train network, going down to Kamakura (about 20 minutes) is pretty nice with a very big buddha statue.

Oeno and its museum I went to on the first day of arrival so it's a bit vague!

Yayoi Kusama, the avant garde artist and sculpture has a permanent exhibition in Tokyo. I've been wanting to go for ages but never found the right person to go with.......
