Top player in his time - when there were other excellent England centre halves about, he got 2 caps.
I rated him very highly and what's more, I had the pleasure of staying in the same hotel as him and his Mrs in Tenerife last year and he made the holiday. Absolutely top bloke and still City through and through.
Just imagine - in about 30 years from now, you go on a quiet holiday and Vinny Kompany and his Mrs are there, sharing stories all week about City and famous players etc - that's what it was like for me. He's about 8 years older than me.
A great holiday, then 7/8 months later, we win the league. What a season it was!

Loved the man as a kid. He was everything I wanted to be as a footballer. Star man. In terms of centre halves he is up there with the best. As has been said before Watson, Doyle, Booth, Caton were all great players in a 15 year period.

A great footballing centre half,even with Watson and Doyle around still managed 100's of appreances.
Mainly down to his versatility,as has been posted played in midfield for a time can't imagine many centre half's from his day managing that.

He looked a very good player when he broke into the first team squad and soon replaced George Heslop as a regular in central defense alongside Alan Oakes.
He stayed there for some years until his opportunities restricted by the arrival of Dave Watson.
I always rated him.
