Too many penalties

What's going on this season? 20 penalties already.

The first Premier League season in 92/93 had 61 penalties in the whole season, and that was with 42 games. An average of 1.45 penalties per game week. And basically that was roughly the case for the first 10 years of the PL. In recent years, we've been hovering between 80 and 106, so between 2.1 and 2.79 per game week.

So far this season, with most teams having played 3 games, we've had 20 penalties. One more penalty in week 3 and we have an average of 7 penalties per week. It seems like an absolute piss take, to be honest, with ridiculous handballs being given, and people falling over at the slightest contact being given penalties even after a VAR review. 14 away from home too.

Because David Elleray is a ****. 178 rule changes in his tenure so far. Changes to every law except the one that says the ball must be spherical.

Ruined a perfectly good game that’s changed little in a hundred years with pathetic rule changes that weren’t needed, there’s no way of knowing with this Covid thing but I bet thousands would be turning away from this ‘ new’ football

I'd love to see a list of pundits and managers that moaned about referee's needing help from technology. Now we have it these sames cu*ts are moaning it's ruining the game. No shit sherlock, it was blindingly obvious once it got its foot in the door it would take over. If you analysed the opening day of the Premier League 25 years ago with VAR you would have 7 or 8 penos each week too. The problem is we have a million of cameras operating in super slow motion picking up things the human eye can't see. It will get a lot worse before it gets better if it ever does.

Was there any penalties in the league Cup this week? I don't think there was and no VAR to correct that.
And l daresay a lot of incidents that just played on normally dealt with by the ref but with VAR would have had loads of controversy.

No fans to provide tbe excitement so bring in another fucking stupid handball rule and soft pens to just give more pens to excite people , it is just fucking annoying everyone

Mane assualting someone and getting away with it tells you we are being manipulated

Football should be spontaneous, a game of skill and judgement, not decided by someone in a shed forensically watching replays.

Only goal line technology is good out of the new changes. Goal or not, clear as day, no interpretation of intent or contact.

Trying to increase viewership in areas that need high scores to keep them interested. It’ll be 7 points for a goal before long.

I fear it could then be penalties or golden goal as there can't ever be a drawn game.

The second Chelsea pen was a penalty all day long but there’s no way that first one is a penalty. BT looking for the slightest of brushes of his foot on his kneecap as he’s already falling to justify it is pathetic.

PL are pandering to the overseas market again especially the US. Americans don't like sports that end 0 - 0 but want plenty of points scored. On Sly last week Souness said we should all applaud the new handball rule as we get more goals and more excitement.....but who really wants to watch penalties over and over again unless it's a shootout. Goals from open play are much more enjoyable than watching someone smash it from 12 yards! Were the neutrals really excited about watching Leicester's 3 pens last week other than seeing us beaten!
