Top 105 Guitarists - The Winner page 33

Gary Moore was my top pick, not sure if I'm pleased or disappointed with his placing....Can't see Roy Clarke, Tommy Emmanuel, or Steve Hillage from my top ten being in the top three...All my others made it to the list.

Here's my list and my reasoning behind it.
1. Gary Moore- His playing has brought tears to my eyes before now. He had everything. Named my son after him..
2. John Mitchell, It Bites.- Just love his style and riffs. His second solo in The Wind That Shakes The Barley is a skull cracker.
3. John 5. Technique and power is something else.
4.Scott Gorham. Doesn't get enough credit.
5.Steve Vai. Passion and Warfare is a masterpiece. One off.
6.Brian May. Made me pick up a guitar all those years ago. I could go on but will leave it at that.
7. Francis Dunnery. Mesmerising talent.
8.Steve Hillage. Another who goes under peoples radar when it comes to guitar players. Crisp, clean, player with a fantastic sense of harmony.
9.Roy Clark. If you play guitar, he makes you want to quit.
10.Tommy Emmanuel. Ditto. Lovely bloke too
Good list cannot be critical on any of them and surprised that your 9 and 10 selections were a one off.

A special call out to those who picked Chet Atkins , Martin Barre and Bob Mould again amazed especially in the case of Bob Mould that only one person selected him but there you go everyone has their favourites.

My list had 8 in the top 100, with John Martyn and Tommy Bolin being my outliers.
John Martyn doesn't really fit the lead guitarist tag, but then again he did so many different styles he is impossible to categorise neatly except by saying he was a genius!

1 Jimmy page
2 Dave Gilmour
3 John Martyn
4 eric clapton
5 jeff beck
6 Tommy Bolin
7 Ritchie Blackmore
8 Jimi Hendrix
9 Peter Green
10 Lindsey Buckingham

No 3 (The Real One)
Born in Cambridge and lead naval gazer with a whopping 30 clear of 4th. The same No of votes as Marr but amassing 141 points
David Gilmour

That's a popular choice for greatest guitar solo ever; although not mine.

Gilmour was in my top ten though, and on guitar sound alone, he'd be knocking on the door of top 3.

Guess it's the battle of the Jameses for top spot. Assuming Jimi wins.

Bolin ahead of Blackmore, sacrilege.

Bolin was one of the guitarists that (just) missed out on last spot in my ten though.

I’ve just looked on line for top guitarists I’ve only got one Eric Clapton I‘ve no idea who all the rest are your always going to vote for the people you think are top

My favourite guitarist is Rick Neilsen. I don't think he's the best or top, but he was my number one vote on this poll as my favourite.
He would not come anyhere is any list of 'top' guitarists. He wouldn't wish to really ... :-)
